Cody Hearst of Clarion scores in the fourth quarter of Friday night's 56-14 win over Moniteau. Hearst had 5 grabs for 138 yards, 2 TDs in the win. Karl Lightner of Smethport leaps over an Otto-Eldred defender with Otto-'s Dakota Vaughn (12) closing in fast. Lightner had a Td run for the Hubbers in a 28-6 win Tyce Miller of Port Allegany had 9 catches for 157 yards and 4 TDs in the Gators 70-8 win at Coudersport Friday night.

SHEFFIELD 13, CAMERON COUNTY 12

 

SHEFFIELD — Mister Ussery's 48-yard interception return with 6:50 left in the fourth quarter was the difference in Sheffield's 13-12 win over visiting Cameron County Saturday afternoon.

 

Cameron County (0-4) had taken a 12-7 lead just before halftime when Tucker Britton threw a 13-yard pass to Dylan Armstrong with 22 seconds left in the second quarter.

Ussery then gave the Wolverines (1-3) for good with his big return. 

 

Sheffield outgained Cameron County, 284-166, and won despite losing the turnover battle, 5-1. Quarterback Shequan Wright gained 78 yards on 19 carries and passed for 76 yards. Daiquan Brown scored Sheffield's first touchdown in the first quarter on a 1-yard run.

 

Cameron County intercepted Wright twice and the first one was turned into a 101-yard return for a touchdown by Eric Spehalski for the game's first points with 6:54 left in the first quarter. Antonio Johnson led the Red Raiders with 65 yards on 23 carries.

UNION 28, KARNS CITY 18

KARNS CITY – Union scored on three plays of 30 or more yards to get its first win over Karns City, 28-18 Friday night, since 1995.

Keenan Rankin caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from Brody Shick, Shick hit Aaron Graham with a 31-yard touchdown pass and Kaden McGregor scored on what has been described as both a 42-yard run and a 42-yard screen pass for a touchdown.

Wyatt Everetts scored on a pair of short runs for Karns City, which also got a 12-yard touchdown run from Dakota Mohney.

Karns City led 18-13 on an Everetts touchdown late in the first half, but a 66-yard Chad Carmichael kickoff return led to the Graham touchdown catch that put the Golden Knights (4-0) ahead 21-18 at halftime.

Tyler Kepple was 7 of 21 for 86 yards and an interception for Karns City, while Matt Conto had five grabs for 63 yards. Glenn Toy, who was originally thought lost for the season with a preseason ACL tear, played and ran five times for 32 yards.

Union stats were not immediately available.

CLEARFIELD 41, HUNTINGDON 24

HUNTINGDON – Christian Lezzer hooked with Trey Jordan for four touchdown passes, and Tyler Stratton scored two rushing touchdowns to lead Clearfield to a 41-24 win at Huntingdon Friday night.

Lezzer finished 4-for-5 for 136 yards and the four touchdowns with Jordan catching all four passes for 136 yards and the score. Lezzer also ran 14 times for 107 yards, while Stratton ran 21 times for 164 yards and the two scores.

Clearfield (4-0 overall, 3-0 Mountain League) led 27-3 at halftime and outgained Huntingdon (0-4, 0-3) 418-282.

FARRELL 54, REDBANK VALLEY 0

DeWayne Burns scored four touchdowns to lead visiting Farrell (2-2) to a 54-0 win at winless Redbank Valley (0-4) Friday night.

Burns who ran eight times for 179 yards scored on runs of 70 and 47 yards, returned a kickoff 94 yards and caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Ray Johnson, who also scored on a 1-yard run.

Redbank Valley stats were not immediately available.

CLARION 56, MONITEAU 14

CLARION – Behind an aerial attack that saw the Bobcats throw for 229 yards, Clarion cruised to a 56-14 win over visiting Moniteau Friday night.

Game-by-game records for the Bobcats (4-0) go back to 2000, and it is the most yards thrown for in a game in that span. Partial records indicate that it may be the most since Mike Taylor threw for 290 in a game his senior year, which was in the late 1980s early 1990s.

Junior quarterback John Katis accounted for 204 of those yards (7 of 13, 2 touchdowns) and is the first Bobcat quarterback over 200 yards since Dan Walters in 2010. Cody Hearst also become the first 100-yard receiver for Clarion (5 catches, 138 yards, 2 touchdowns) since Cody Renninger had 107 in 2009, and his 138 yards are the most by a Clarion receiver since Manny Carpin had 142 and three touchdowns in 2005.

Ian Corbett also scored twice on the ground for Clarion, while Camron Kirkland threw a touchdown and returned a punt 86 yards for a score. T.J. Armstrong added a rushing touchdowns while recording 17 tackles (6 ½ for losses), two sacks and a forced fumble, and Damien Slike returned a kickoff 90 yards for a score while recording 11 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Andrew Armagost scored on a 2-yard run for Moniteau (0-4), which had just 149 yards of total offense, and Dustin Geagan returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown just before Slike’s kickoff return for a score. The Warriors used three different quarterbacks but managed to pass for just 12 yards going 2-for-13.

Clarion is 4-0 for the first time since starting 5-0 in 2005, while Moniteau, the defending District 9 Class AA champion, is 0-4 for the first time since starting 0-8 in 1999.

PORT ALLEGANY 70, COUDERSPORT 8

COUDERSPORT – The Air Bodamer show continued Friday night, as the Port Allegany senior tossed seven touchdowns for the second straight week while going 28 of 35 for 413 yards in a 70-8 route at Coudersport.

Bodamer, who became just the sixth player in Pennsylvania history to throw for 8,000 career yards (8,264), threw six first-half touchdowns and one on the first drive of the second half before coming out. He now has 107 career throwing scores moving past Allentown Central Catholic’s Brendan Nosovitch (106) for second in Pennsylvania history behind the 119 thrown by Lancaster Catholic’s Kyle Smith. The 8,264 yards ranks fourth in state history and second in District 9 history, while he became the first District 9 quarterback to throw at least seven touchdown passes in a game twice in a career. Derek Buganza of Brockway has the District 9 record with eight, while Clearfield’s Chad Kroell also threw seven in a game once.

Three Gator receivers also topped the 100-yard receiving mark, the first District 9 team to do that since Brockway in 2009.

Tyce Miller had nine catches for 157 yards and four touchdowns giving him 126 career catches for 2,165 yards and 28 touchdowns. He is 280 yards shy of the District 9 record of 2,445 by Mike Vervoort of Brockway and two touchdowns shy of the District 9 record of 30 set by Clarion-Limestone’s Brad Beggs. Miller currently sits third in District 9 history in both categories, as Clearfield’s Wes Dahlem had 2,354 yards and 29 touchdowns in his career.

Nick Conway added six grabs for 117 yards and a touchdown, while Rickie Bova had eight for 100 yards and score helping Port (4-0 overall, 4-0 AML North) rack up 596 yards of total offense. Cody Burr also caught a touchdown pass from Bodamer, while Chad Gaines hauled one in from Jordan Seefeldt. Nick Budd and Mac Tanner scored on the ground for Port Allegany, which scored its most points in a game since beating Eisenhower 75-0 in 1951 and the third most in a game in school history (also beat Johnsonburg 74-7 in 1924).

Coudersport (1-3, 1-3), which allowed the most points in school history (the Falcons allowed 60 in a 60-8 loss to Johnsonburg in 1987 and 60 in a 60-22 loss to Smethport in 1969), scored on a 6-yard Ethan Hite to Clayton Wilson touchdown pass. The Falcons were limited to just 23 yards rushing.

SMETHPORT 28, OTTO-ELDRED 6

DUKE CENTER – Behind a pair of Clay Schuler touchdown runs, visiting Smethport (2-2 overall, 2-2 AML North) beat Otto-Eldred (0-4, 0-4) 28-6 Friday night.

Schuler scored on scoring runs of 77 and 10 yards, while Ryan Stratton returned an interception 17 yards for the Hubbers, one of four interceptions by Smethport, and Karl Lightner scored on a 44-yard run.

Jake Wichert scored for Otto-Eldred on a 16-yard run.  

No individual stats were available for this game.

SLIPPERY ROCK 25, BRADFORD 3

SLIPPERY ROCK – Trailing by just three, 6-3, at halftime on the road at Slippery Rock, Bradford had to be feeling pretty good about itself.

But the homestanding Rockets scored 19 unanswered second-half points on their way to a 25-3 win in District 10 Region 5 action Friday night.

Ty Riley’s 31-yard field goal in the second quarter accounted for the only Bradford (2-2 overall, 1-2 D10 R5) points.

Ryan Currie had a pair of touchdown runs for Slippery Rock (4-0, 2-0), coached by former Coudersport head coach Brendan Hathaway, while Jeff Croll and Jared McDowell also scored for the Rockets. McDowell had a team-best 88 yards rushing, while Currie added 71 yards on the ground with Slippery Rock running for 250 yards on the night.

Quarterback Matt Yurkewicz was a bright spot for Bradford going 9 of 17 for 106 yards and carrying the ball 27 times for 84 yards.

BROOKVILLE 42, KEYSTONE 13

BROOKVILLE — Scoring on five of their first six possessions and adding a punt return for a touchdown to start the onslaught, the Brookville Raiders breezed to a 42-13 win over visiting Keystone on Homecoming Friday night giving head coach Chris Dworek his 100th career coaching victory and his 96th at Brookville.

Dworek, who also coached one season at Keystone going 4-5, is in his 18th overall season and 17th at Brookville. He has a career mark of 100-86 including 96-81 at Brookville.

Brodie Zacherl and Zach Vroman each went over 100 yards rushing with 122 and 115 respectively. Zacherl scored two touchdowns on a 12-yard pass from Cameron Yard and a 56-yard run that put the Raiders (3-1) up 28-0 with 5:02 left in the first quarter. Vroman started the scoring with a 53-yard punt return less than 2 minutes into the game.

Cameron Yard threw two touchdown passes, including a 35-yarder to Evan Matheny, and scored the Raiders' final touchdown on a 5-yard run to put them up 42-0 with 4:41 remaining in the first half.

Keystone (1-3) scored twice in the second half against the Raiders' backups. Austin Chambers threw a 27-yard pass to Josh Eberhart in the third quarter and Zach Stiglitz had a 7-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. Chambers completed 5 of 8 passes for 135 yards, three of those completions going to Eberhart for 94 yards.

BROCKWAY 50, KANE 42

KANE — In a shootout that saw both teams combine for over 900 yards of offense, it was the Brockway Rovers who outgunned Kane for a 52-40 win Friday night.

Chad Melillo rushed for 161 yards on 28 carries and scored three times on runs of 6, 10 and 15 yards, his third TD securing the hard- fought win with 2:15 left in the game. Quarterback Alec Shaffer-Doan completed 21 of 30 passes for 316 and threw a 39-yard TD to Jacob Perrin. Shaffer-Doan also scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter.

The Rovers (4-0) never trailed, although the game was tied at 21-21 before kicker Philip Esposito's 20-yard field goal as time expired in the first half gave them the lead for good.

But Kane (2-2) was never far behind. Quarterback Sean Jordan completed 14 of 23 passes for 217 and tossed three touchdown passes of 17 yards to Tyler Ennis, 69 yards to Jonah Smith and 3 yards to Jeff Kocjancic. Smith rushed for 115 yards on 16 carries, adding a 4- yard TD run. Sean Rolick scored Kane's first touchdown on a 98-yard kick return following Brockway's first score on Anthony Benson's 9- yard run.

Brockway outgained Kane, 566-394.

ST. MARYS 35, CLARION-LIMESTONE 0

STRATTANVILLE – Alex Feldbauer ran 20 times for 184 yards and two touchdowns, and Alex Coudriet ran for a score and threw for a score to lead St. Marys to a 35-0 win at Clarion-Limestone Friday night.

Coudriet, who was 3-for-10 for 46 yards while rushing once for one yard, hit Alexx Tyger with a 35-yard scoring pass and scored on a 1-yard run. Cody Baker added five carries for 73 yards including a 44-yard touchdown run, while Feldbauer scored on runs on two and three yards.

C-L, which was shutout for the third time in four games while being outscored 221-12, was outgained 384 yards to 118. Kyle Robertson led the Lions (0-4) with 65 yards rushing on 10 carries, while Christian Bakewell was 5-for-9 passing for 40 yards with two interceptions.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 28, RIDGWAY 6

ST. MARYS – Behind 161 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 12 carries from Brock McCullough, Elk County Catholic remained unbeaten with a 28-6 win over Ridgway Friday night in St. Marys.

McCullough scored on runs of 38 and 72 yards, and Mitchell Vallone added a 1-yard scoring run and a 31-yard touchdown pass to Hank Cappiello for the Crusaders (4-0 overall, 4-0 AML South). Cappiello ran 15 times for 83 yards and had the one catch. Vallone was 5-for-8 for 69 yards and ran twice for 14 yards.

Zak McKnight scored Ridgway’s lone touchdown on a 3-yard run and ended the game with 80 yards on 11 carries while adding two catches for 56 yards.  The Elkers drop to 1-3, 1-3.

CURWENSVILLE 41, JOHNSONBURG 0

JOHNSONBURG – A balanced rushing attack that put up 302 yards and scored five touchdowns helped keep Curwensville unbeaten with a 41-0 win at Johnsonburg Friday night.

Josh Greslick led the Golden Tide (4-0 overall, 4-0 AML South) attack with 94 yards rushing and a score, while Brad Coudriet added two rushing touchdowns and quarterback Hunter McCracken threw for 125 yards and a score.  

Mitchel Holmberg led Johnsonburg (1-3, 1-3) with seven catches for 72 yards and also had an interception on defense, his fifth interception in the past three games.

Curwensville played the entire second half without Brad Stuff, who was ejected for a personal foul in the first half according to the Ridgway Record. Stubbs will have to sit out next week’s game vs. Kane per PIAA rules.  

DUBOIS 40, OIL CITY 14

OIL CITY – Another big game from Garrett Brown helped lift unbeaten DuBois to a 40-14 road win at Oil City Friday night.

Brown ran 28 times for 247 yards and five touchdowns for the Beavers (4-0 overall, 2-0 D10 R5) scoring on runs of three, one, 12, three, and 31 yards. Three of his touchdowns came in the second half helping DuBois outscore Oil City 27-14 in the half after the Beavers led 13-0 at halftime. Brown gained 240 of his yards in the second and third quarters after being limited to seven yards in the first quarter by the Oilers (0-4, 0-4).

Devin Clark also caught a 58-yard touchdown pass from Connor Stewart for DuBois, while Oil City saw Taylor Stamm hook up with Logan Way for a pair of touchdown passes. Stamm was 14 of 20 for 169 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in relief of Colton Cunningham, who was 3-for-7 for 26 yards. Way had 11 catches for 136 yards and the two touchdowns.

Gabe French went 17 of 25 for 205 yards for DuBois with Garrett Miles catching eight passes for 80 yards. DuBois outgained Oil City 499-282 including 236-33 on the ground.  

PUNXSUTAWNEY 24, A-C VALLEY 6

PUNXSUTAWNEY – Christian Falgout ran 26 times for 192 yards and two touchdowns and added an interception on defense to lift Punxsutawney to a 24-6 win over visiting A-C Valley Friday night.

Jamie Bush added 18 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown for the Chucks (2-2), who ran for 386 yards on the night, while Trevor Peace added a 23-yard field goal.

A-C Valley (1-3), which was limited to 202 yards, 52 in the game’s final minute, scored on a late 4-yard Kevin Kaufman run.
