UNION 41, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 21
HERMITAGE — Brody Shick threw three touchdown passes to Kaden McGregor and Cody Kline ran for two scores as Union bounced back from its first loss of the year with a 41-21 win at Kennedy Catholic Saturday.
Shick connected with McGregor on TD passes of 60, 16 and 15 yards while Kline ran for scores of 1 and 10 yards. Shick finished 6 of 14 passing for 171 yards and the three scores while McGregor had four catches for 102 yards and the three touchdowns.
Union improved to 5-1 while Kennedy Catholic dropped to 1-5.
PORT ALLEGANY 48, SMETHPORT 0
PORT ALLEGANY — Matt Bodamer threw for three touchdowns
and 253 yards to lead the Port Allegany Gators to a 48-0
shutout win Saturday afternoon.
Bodamer completed 14 of 21 passes and also scored on a
run of his own. Nick Conway (2), Josh Poorman and Rickie
Bova caught TD passes, three of those from Bodamer and
one from backup quarterback Jordan Seefeldt.
Tyce Miller caught four passes for 93 yards.
Port Allegany held Smethport to 47 yards of total
offense.
The Gators improved to 6-0 and clinched the AML's North
Division title. Smethport fell to 3-3
CLEARFIELD 49, BELLEFONTE 14
HYDE — Quarterback Christian Lezzer threw three
touchdown passes and ran for two more to lead the
unbeaten Clearfield Bison to a 49-14 rout of Bellefonte
Friday night.
Lezzer completed 3 of 5 passes for 123 yards, connecting
with Trey Jordan on TD passes of 38 and 50 yards, and 35
yards to Shawn Lord.
Lezzer needed just eight carries to gain 152 yards,
scoring on runs of 69 and 1 yards.
Tyler Stratton rushed for 139 yards on nine carries and
added a 69- yard touchdown run.
Clearfield (6-0) amassed 516 yards of offense, building
a 42-7 lead by halftime.
MONITEAU 32, REDBANK VALLEY 8
WEST SUNBURY — In a battle of surprisingly winless
teams, it was Moniteau that pulled away with a 32-8 win
over Redbank Valley Friday night.
The Warriors (1-5) scored three second-quarter
touchdowns to break the game open. Dustin Geagan scored
the first two on runs of 4 and 47 yards. Stephen Hagg's
14-yard run made it 18-0 at halftime.
Trevor Shaffer, who led the Warriors with 158 yards,
added a 35-yard TD run in the third quarter and Andrew
Armagost finished off the scoring with a 9-yard run in
the fourth quarter. The Warriors rushed for 282 yards,
with Geagan contributing 67 on 17 carries, and limited
Redbank Valley (0-6) to 108 yards of offense.
The Bulldogs got a 34-yard TD run from Brandon Bailey in
the third quarter. Redbank Valley is one loss away from
equaling its worst start ever. The Bulldogs started 1951
0-7.
BROCKWAY 56, CURWENSVILLE 34
BROCKWAY — Brockway raced out to a 35-0 lead then had to hold off a furious Curwensville comeback attempt before winning the battle of AML South unbeatens 56-34 Friday night in Brockway.
The Rovers (6-0) scored on its first five possessions and built the 35-0 lead 15 minutes into the game, but the Golden Tide (5-1) scored 22 points in the final five minutes of the first half to get within 13, 35-22, at halftime. Curwensville then scored less than two minutes into the second half to get within a score, 35-28. Brockway, though, scored to make it 42-28 before the Tide got within eight, 42-34, going to the fourth quarter. The Rovers, though, finally put the game away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns.
The teams combined for 844 yards in the game with Chad Melillo rushing 26 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns while catching two passes for 54 yards to lead Brockway, and Zach Tibbens running 22 times for 166 yards and four touchdowns to pace Curwensville.
Alec Shaffer-Doan was 9 of 13 passing for 186 yards and four touchdowns while an interception for Brockway, while Alex Olson carried nine times for 112 yards for Curwensville. Jacob Perrin added a pair of touchdown catches for the Rovers with Anthony Benson also getting a touchdown catch and an interception, and Hunter McCracken threw a short touchdown pass to Jordan Russell for Curwensville, which was outgained 439-405.
The win coupled with an Elk County Catholic loss to Kane, leaves Brockway in first place in the AML South by itself. The Rovers are looking for their third straight AML South title.
KANE 17, ELK
COUNTY CATHOLIC 14 KANE — Sean Jordan's 7-yard
touchdown pass with 3:08 left in the game capped a Kane
comeback in its 17-14 win over previously unbeaten Elk
County Catholic Friday night. The Wolves (3-3) trailed the
Crusaders (5-1) 14-7 following a 72-yard touchdown run
by ECC's Hank Cappiello with 7:02 left in the second
quarter. The Wolves got a Sean Rolick 24-yard field goal
before halftime, then went ahead for good with their
fourth-quarter touchdown. Jordan also threw a 2-yard TD pass
to Kocjancic for the game's first points in the first
quarter. ECC's Brock McCullough matched that with a
5-yard run before the end of the first. Kane outgained ECC, 281-222. Jonah
Smith rushed for 128 yards on 25 carries and Jordan
completed 14 of 25 passes for 144 yards. Cappiello
rushed for 96 yards on seven carries to lead the
Crusaders' offense.
BROOKVILLE 48,
A-C VALLEY 24 BROOKVILLE – Thanks to three
100-yard rushers, Brookville ran for 432 yards and five
touchdowns in a 48-24 win over visiting A-C Valley
Friday night. Quarterback Cameron Yard ran 14
times for a game-high 151 yards and three touchdowns
while also going 2-for-10 passing for 43 yards and a
score. He also hit four extra points and ran for a
two-point conversion. Brodie Zacherl added 22 carries
for 136 yards and a score, and Zach Vroman ran 10 times
for 126 yards and a touchdown while also returning a
punt 70 yards to pay dirt and also intercepting a pass.
Braiden Smith had the touchdown reception on a 41-yard
pass play. The 432 yards is the most in head
coach Chris Dworek’ s 17 years at the school, and it
marks the first time under Dworek the Raiders (5-1) have
had three runners each surpass 100 yards in the same
game. Kevin Kaufman led A-C Valley (2-4)
going 14-for-36 for 209 yards, a touchdown and two
interceptions. Ryan Bartley was his top target with four
catches for 75 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown
catch, while Anthony Painter added three grabs for 68
yards. Landon Delisio led the Falcons ground game with
20 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown, and Josh Suto
returned a kickoff 92 yards for a score. A-C Valley led 17-14 following a
26-yard Damien Wolfe field goal early in the second
quarter, but Brookville scored the game’s next 34
points.
JOHNSONBURG 13,
RIDGWAY 12 RIDGWAY – Johnsonburg rallied from
an early 12-point deficit to beat rival Ridgway 13-12
Friday night in Ridgway. The Elkers (1-5) started fast with
a pair of first-quarter touchdowns involving quarterback
Ben MacDonald. MacDonald hit Joe Jaques with a 57-yard
strike and then scored on a 2-yard run. But Johnsonburg (2-4) got within
five, 12-7, at halftime thanks to a 36-yard Devon
Zilcosky fumble return, and then Frank Kocjancic hit
Mitchell Holmberg with a 15-yard touchdown pass early in
the second half to complete the scoring. Kocjancic was 13 of 26 for 129
yards and the touchdown, while Holmberg caught three
passes for 29 yards and was also 3-for-3 passing for 53
yards. Caleb Garvey had five catches for 66 yards for
the Rams. MacDonald led Ridgway going 7 of 17
for 116 yards, a touchdown and an interception while
also running eight times for 18 yards and the score.
Jaques has three catches for 77 yards and the touchdown,
while Zac McKnight ran nine times for 56 yards helping
the Elkers outgain Johnsonburg 264-198. But Ridgway had
two turnovers to Johnsonburg’s none, including the one
returned for a touchdown. Johnsonburg’s victory knots the
all-time series between the schools, the longest series
in District 9, at 50-50-8.
OTTO-ELDRED 52,
SHEFFIELD 38 DUKE CENTER – Sam Colebert, Dakota
Vaughn and Jake Wichert combined to run for 355 yards
and six touchdowns to lead Otto-Eldred to its first win
of the season, 52-38 over visiting Sheffield, Friday
night. Colebert ran 18 times for 136 yards
and four touchdowns for the Terrors (1-5), while Vaughn
added 16 carries for 92 yards and two scores while also
going 3-for-11 passing for 46 yards and two touchdowns
including a 26-yard scoriing pass to Wichert, who added
10 carries for 127 yards.
Shequan Wright scored four rushing
touchdowns for Sheffield (2-4) on carries for 2, 1, 6
and 2 yards while also going 15 of 37 passing for 239
yards and two interceptions.
Otto led 20-14 at halftime and
32-14 at the end of three quarters before the teams
combined for six fourth-quarter touchdowns and 44 points
with Sheffield outscoring the Terrors 24-20 in the
quarter.
CAMERON COUNTY
27, COUDERSPORT 18 EMPORIUM – Antonio Johnson ran 18
times for 115 yards and two touchdowns to help Cameron
County to its first win of the season, 27-18 over
visiting Coudersport, Friday night. Johnson scored the Red Raiders
(1-5) first touchdowns (4-yard run) and last touchdown
(31-yard run) while Tony Olivett (6-yard run) and Dylan
Armstrong (20-yard pass from Tucker Britton) scored the
middle two scores for Cameron County. Ethan Hite was involved in two of
the three Coudersport scores tossing a 46-yard touchdown
pass to Mitch Freeman and also scoring on a 15-yard run.
Alex Hershey added a 9-yard scoring run for Coudersport
late in the first half that gave the Falcons an 18-7
lead at the time. But Olivett scored on a 6-yard run
with 38 seconds to play before the half to give the Red
Raiders momentum heading into halftime, and they
outscored Coudersport (1-5) 12-0 in the second half.
Freeman ran 15 times for 52 yards,
while Hershey had five carries for 30 yards and caught
five passes for 57 yards for the Falcons. Armstrong had four catches for 83
yards and the touchdown for Cameron County.
BRADFORD 31, FRANKLIN 13
FRANKLIN – Oh, what a
difference a week makes.
Bradford rebounded from its
84-6 loss to DuBois a week ago to beat Franklin 31-13
Friday night in District 10 Region 5 action. The victory
snapped a three-game losing skid for the Owls (3-3) and
kept their hopes alive for a District 9 Class AAA
playoff spot.
Matt Yurkewicz led the Owls
rushing 18 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns (30
and 41 yards) while also going 3-for-9 passing for 53
yards and two interceptions and picking off a pass on
defense. Aaron Fishkin added 12 carries for 86 yards and
a touchdown, while Kyle Langdon had five totes for 25
yards including a 22-yard touchdown run. Ty Riley
chipped in a 35-yard field goal just before halftime
that gave Bradford a 10-7 lead at the break.
Bradford’s defense was led by
Langdon, who had 10 tackles and two sacks, while Justin
Fishkin recorded three sacks and Nunzio Cavallero nine
tackles. Brandon Teribery added eight stops.
The game was the first meeting
between the teams since 1987.
PUNXSUTAWNEY 41, CLARION-LIMESTONE 7
PUNXSUTAWNEY – Punxsutawney
picked up its third straight win with a 41-7 victory
over visiting Clarion-Limestone Friday night.
Garrett Zimmerman led the
Chucks (4-2) by going 7 of 10 passing for 171 yards and
four touchdowns while also rushing for 14 yards. Dakota
Byers had two catches for 76 yards and a touchdown,
while Clayton Dale had two grabs for 49 yards and two
touchdowns and Jamie Bush three catches for 46 yards and
a score. Bush also ran five times for 42 yards, and
Perry Arrington added seven carries for 88 yards.
Also scoring for Punxsutawney
were Christian Falgout (4-yard run) and Dakota Thomas
(1-yard run).
Tommy Smith had another big
night for C-L (0-6) catching five passes for 123 yards
including a 60-yard touchdown.
CLARION 40, ST.
MARYS 28 CLARION – Clarion built 25-point
halftime lead and then held off a St. Marys comeback in
the second half to get a 40-28 win Thursday night at
Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium. The Bobcats (6-0) led 33-7 at
halftime but watched as St. Marys stormed back in the
second half to get within 12, 40-28, on a 95-yard Alex
Feldbauer run. The Dutch then recovered a Clarion fumble
less than a minute later before the Bobcats defense shut
down the comeback. Camron Kirkland and Damien Slike
each went over 100 yards rushing for Clarion with
Kirkland running nine times for 147 yards and a
touchdown and Slike 103 yards on nine carries with a
pair of scores. T.J. Armstrong also scored twice for the
Bobcats running 14 times for 54 yards, while Kirkland
added three catches for 55 yards. John Katis was 9 of 15
passing for 149 yards and two picks, and Cody Hearst had
four catches for 54 yards and picked off a pass on
defense. Feldbauer led St. Marys with 195
yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries. Joe Luchini
had nine carries for 96 yards including a 72-yard
touchdown run. Robbie Glass had two interceptions and
two fumble recoveries while also recording seven tackles
for the Dutch, who forced six Clarion turnovers.
Armstrong and Slike led Clarion’s
defense with 12 tackles apiece with Armstrong recording
a sack as well. |
