BROCKWAY 44, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 22

ST. MARYS – Going into Saturday night’s game with visiting Brockway, Elk County Catholic had given up 41 points all season.

But behind another huge game on the ground from Chad Melillo, the unbeaten Rovers (7-0) more than doubled that output while getting a 44-22 win over the Crusaders (5-2), who have dropped consecutive regulations games for the first time in two years (ECC lost two in a row last year but one was in double overtime to Brockway).

Melillo ran 31 times for 174 yards and four touchdowns helping the Rovers tear through the ECC defense for 263 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Kyle Titler and Anthony Benson also scored on the ground for Brockway with Titler rushing 10 times for 52 yards and Benson 10 for 24. That helped the Rovers offset three interceptions thrown by quarterback Alec Doan-Shaffer, who was 14 of 21 for 140 yards. Benson caught two of the passes for 51 yards, while Jacob Perrin had seven grabs for 62 yards.

ECC had success on the ground as well rushing for 201 yards led by Brock McCullough, who ran 20 times for 144 yards and a touchdown. McCullough also caught a touchdown pass from Mitchell Vallone and had one catch for 25 yards. Vallone was 4 of 12 for 80 yards and the score. The Crusaders also scored on a 60-yard fumble recovery by Hank Cappiello.

The 44 points are the most allowed by ECC since Curwensville hung 70 on the Crusaders in a 70-0 win Oct. 22, 2004. It is just the third time since the start of the 2000 season ECC has allowed at least 44 points in a game.

A-C VALLEY 21, KEYSTONE 7

FOXBURG – Behind 170 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries from Landon Delisio, A-C Valley moved to 3-1 in the KSAC Small School Division with a 21-7 win over visiting Keystone Friday night.

The Falcons (3-4 overall, 3-1 KSAC SSD) have their most conference wins since getting three in 2000 and their most wins since garnering four in 2000.

Ryan Bartley added a pair of touchdown catches for A-C Valley, which lost starting quarterback Kevin Kaufman to a first-quarter injury but rallied behind freshman backup Evan Redding, who led three scoring drives.

Bartley finished with three catches for 40 yards and also made 10 tackles on defense, while Redding was 8 of 14 passing for 87 yards and the two scores while also rushing six times for 28 yards.

A-C Valley, which withstood a pair of turnovers deep in its own territory, scored just before the half on a 9-yard Redding to Bartley pass and then early in the second half on a 19-yard Delisio run. Redding hooked up with Bartley from 23 yards out midway through the fourth to seal the win.
