BRADFORD 24, ST.
MARYS 12 BRADFORD – Bradford clinched its
first District 9 Class AAA playoff berth since winning
the title in 2007 thanks to a 24-12 win over visiting
St. Marys Friday night. The Owls (4-5) will face Clearfield
(9-0) in the District 9 title game next week at a date,
time and place to be determined. Bradford will most
likely need a win in that game to advance to the
District 5, 6, 8, 9 Regional playoff. Clearfield already
has a spot in that bracket sewed up. Matt Yurkewicz was the key player
for Bradford Friday night rushing 14 times for 108 yards
and three touchdowns while also going 1-for-3 passing
for 27 yards. Ty Riley added a 31-yard field goal for
the Owls. St. Marys (4-5) got a pair of Alex
Feldbauer touchdown runs. Feldbauer, who entered the
game as District 9’s leading rusher with 1,342 yards,
was limited to a season-low 72 unofficial yards on 19
carries. Prior to Friday night, Feldbauer’s low was 120
yards. Joe Luchini added 73 yards rushing for the Dutch,
who were rushed 231 to 168 by the Owls. Ryan McCammon paced the Bradford
defense with six tackles, two sacks and a fumble
recovery, while Yurkewicz added 11 tackles.
CLARION 49, A-C
VALLEY 14 FOXBURG – Clarion wrapped up its
third straight KSAC Small School Division title and with
it the No. 2 seed in the District 9 Class A playoffs
with a 49-14 win at A-C Valley Friday night. The Bobcats (9-0 overall, 5-0 KSAC
Small School Division) have won 17 straight conference
games including all 15 in the Small School Division.
It’s the second-longest conference win streak in school
history behind 21 in a row from 1999-2001. Camron Kirkland scored four
touchdowns to lead the way Friday night, while John
Katis was also involved in four scores. Kirkland caught touchdown passes of
24 and 11 yards from Katis, scored on a 3-yard run and
returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown. He
ran nine times for 70 yards and caught three passes for
74 yards.
Katis, who also threw an 8-yard
touchdown pass to T.J. Armstrong, was 9 of 13 for 178
yards and three scores while rushing once for a
touchdown (2 yards). Armstrong had 22 carries for 125
yards and a touchdown and two catches for 19 yards and
score. Cody Hearst added three catches for 82 yards. Mike Suto scored both of A-C
Valley’s touchdowns finding the end zone on a 1-yard
punt block return and on an 11-yard run. Jimmy Holton
blocked the punt that helped A-C Valley forge a 7-7 tie
at the end of the first quarter, but Clarion scored 21
unanswered second-quarter points to take a 28-7 halftime
lead. A-C Valley got back within 14 on
Suto’s touchdown run late in the third quarter before
Clarion scored the game’s final three touchdowns. Landon Delisio ran 19 times for 111
yards for the Falcons, who still control their own
destiny for their first playoff spot since 1999 thanks
to a 21-0 Kane win over Coudersport. If A-C Valley beats
West Shamokin next week, the Falcons will be in the
Class A playoffs. The division title is the 13th
for Clarion since 1951. The Bobcats are 9-0 for the
first time since 2000 and will be looking to go 10-0 in
the regular season for the first time ever next week
when they host Brookville.
KARNS CITY 45,
BROOKVILLE 20 BROOKVILLE — With the Keystone
Shortway Athletic Conference Large School Division title
at stake, it was the Karns City Gremlins who came
storming out of the gate and notched a 45-20 win at
Brookville Friday night. The Gremlins (6-3) wrapped up the
division title with a 4-0 record.
They took care of business early
and often in piling up a 29-0 lead by halftime.
Quarterback Tyler Kepple threw for a touchdown pass in
the first half and ran for two scores in the second
half, finishing with 99 yards rushing and 114 yards
passing. Ten different players ran the ball
in the Gremlins' 311-yard rushing effort, including six
on the first drive of the game that went 80 yards on 13
plays and was finished on a Zach Moore 3-yard run.
Dakota Mohney added 6-yard run in the first frame as
well. Karns
City cashed in on two straight Raiders turnovers in the
second quarter. Wyatt Everetts picked off a Cameron Yard
pass and returned it 47 yards for a score, and a Matt
Conto interception on the Raiders' next possession set
up Kepple's 40-yard TD pass to Tristan Rhoades late in
the half. Kepple's TD runs in the second half
covered 49 and 46 yards. The Gremlins also scored a
safety when the Raiders' Yard was flagged for
intentional grounding in his own end zone. Both of Brookville's touchdowns
came on Yard passes to Nathan St.
Laurent of 23 and 32 yards in the fourth quarter.
Brodie Zacherl rushed for 142 yards on 16 carries. The
Raiders' top rushing coming into the game, Zach Vroman,
played limited snaps and finished with 23 yards on five
carries. The Gremlins clinched the top seed
in the District 9 Class AA playoffs. Brookville fell to
6-3 overall and 2-2 in the KSAC Large School. The
Raiders or Kane, depending on the result of Brookville's
game at Clarion next week, will be the second and third
seeds. St. Marys (4-5), assuming it enters the
postseason, would be Karns City's semifinal opponent in
two weeks.
DUBOIS 58,
MEADVILLE 24 DuBOIS — Garrett Brown ran for a
school-record 359 yards to lead the DuBois Beavers to a
come-from-behind 58-24 win over Meadville Friday night. Brown scored four touchdowns on
runs of 65 in the second quarter, 44 and 6 yards in the
third quarter and 55 yards to cap off the Beavers'
scoring midway through the fourth quarter. On 26
carries, he broke Derek Marshall's single-game record of
344 yards on 44 carries in the Beavers' 28-7 win over
St. Marys in 2001. The Beavers (8-0) needed Brown's
big night and three touchdown passes from quarterback
Gabe French to Garrett Miles after finding themselves
trailing 17-3 to the Bulldogs midway through the second
quarter after Ryan Harkness' second touchdown on a
1-yard run. But DuBois scored 48 unanswered
points on seven touchdowns. French threw his first TD
pass, a 14-yarder to Garrett Miles, and Shane Marshall's
1-yard run tied it at 17-17 with 1:49 remaining in the
first half. Then Brown's 65-yarder put the Beavers up
for good with 13 seconds left before halftime. The scoring onslaught continued in
the third quarter on Brown's 44- yarder, French's
14-yard TD pass to Miles and Brown's 6-yard run.
French's 28-yard scoring pass to
Miles put the Beavers up 51-17 early in the fourth
quarter before Harkness scored his third TD for
Meadville on a 2-yard run. Brown finished the night
scoring 18 seconds after Meadville's touchdown on his
55-yarder. French completed 9 of 15 passes for
102 yards. Miles caught four balls for 67 yards.
CLEARFIELD 42,
PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 7 HYDE — Christian Lezzer threw for
two passes and ran for two others as the unbeaten
Clearfield Bison rolled to a 42-7 win over
Philipsburg-Osceola Friday night. Lezzer threw two TD passes to Trey
Jordan covering 13 and 41 yards in the first quarter and
then capped off his team's scoring at the end of the
first half with TD runs of 23 and 56 yards. The Bison
led 42-0 by halftime. Lezzer needed just six carries to
rush for 145 yards. He completed 5 of 6 passes for 90
yards. Tyler Stratton added a 30-yard TD run and Seth
Ford returned a fumble 20 yards for another score in the
Bison's 28-point second quarter. The win finished Clearfield's
regular season at 9-0. It's the seventh undefeated
regular season in team history and the second in three
years with 2010 being the last perfect regular season
for head coach Tim Janocko's team. Clearfield's other
unbeaten regular seasons are 2004, 1998, 1994, 1955 and
1939.
ELK COUNTY
CATHOLIC 26, OTTO-ELDRED 12 ST. MARYS — Rallying from a 12-7

to just 141 yards of offense and intercepted Vaughan
three times.
CAMERON COUNTY
14, JOHNSONBURG 13 JOHNSONBURG – Cameron County
rallied from a 7-0 deficit entering the fourth quarter
to get a 14-13 road win at Johnsonburg Friday night. The Red Raiders (2-7) scored twice
late in the fourth quarter to go ahead 14-7 with the
go-ahead score coming on a 2-yard quarterback sneak by
Tucker Britton and a two-point conversion pass from
Britton to Devin Mason.
But Johnsonburg (2-7) blocked a
Cameron County punt with 1:30 to play and returned it
for a touchdown to get within a point, 14-13. But the
Red Raiders stopped the conversion attempt and then
recovered the ensuing on-side kick to seal the victory. Johnsonburg took a 7-0 lead in the
first quarter on a Mitchell Holmberg 8-yard touchdown
run before Cameron County scored its first touchdown in
the fourth quarter on a Britton 10-yard touchdown run.
The PAT, though, was no good.
RIDGWAY 20,
SMETHPORT 19 SMETHPORT – One-win Ridgway stunned
playoff-bound Smethport 20-19 Friday night when the

play. Ridgway (2-7) led 14-7 at halftime
before taking a 20-13 lead late in the third quarter on
a 10-yard Zac McKnight touchdown run. Smethport, though, answered late in
the game when Karl Lightner caught a 23-yard pass from
Schuler to make it 20-19. The Hubbers had one final,
last-gasp chance to win the game, but a 50-yard field
goal attempt by Dario Caminite was blocked by Cortland
Smith on the last play of the game. Schuler had a monster night in the
loss for Smethport rushing 25 times for 207 yards. He
threw a touchdown pass and also returned a punt 60 yards
for a score. Lightner scored a pair of touchdowns for

defense for Smethport. Despite the loss, the Hubbers
clinched a District 9 Class A playoff spot thanks to

will be the No. 7 seed and play second-seeded Clarion in
two weeks.
