WEST SHAMOKIN 34, A-C VALLEY 27

RURAL VALLEY – A frantic A-C Valley rally came up just short – when it looked like it may have been completed – and the Falcons failed to qualify for the District 9 playoffs with a 34-27 loss at West Shamokin Friday night.

A-C Valley (3-6) trailed 34-7 in the third quarter before rallying behind running back Land on Delisio and quarterback Kevin Kaufman to get within seven with just under four minutes to play.

The Falcons then looked like they had completed the comeback – sans the extra point – when Kaufman hit Delisio with an apparent 75-yard screen pass for a touchdown with 57 seconds to play. But the score was called back on an illegal-block in the back call at the West Shamokin 14-yard line, and the Wolves were able to stop the Falcons from getting the score back.

With the loss, Coudersport (3-6) grabs the eighth and final District 9 Class A playoff spot – but it is not known if the Falcons will expect the bid. If they don’t, A-C Valley could be offered the spot, although it isn’t known if it would take it either potentially giving the No. 1 seed – either Port Allegany or Brockway – a bye in the first round next week.

On Friday night, on the road, A-C Valley struggled in the first half falling behind 26-7 at the break thanks to a pair of Andrew Wingard touchdown runs and touchdown scores by Matthew Johns and Zac Horner. The Wolves (3-7) then scored early in the third quarter to go up 34-7.

But A-C Valley fought back, as Delisio, who scored on a 78-yard run in the first half, broke off a 63-yard scoring run in the third quarter to get the Falcons within 20, 34-14, at the end of the third quarter.

Then in the fourth quarter, Mike Suto returned a fumble 11 yards and Kaufman hit Delisio with a 14-yard scoring pass to make it 34-27 with 3:44 to play.

Delisio had a huge game for A-C Valley, rushing for 202 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries and catching four passes for 97 yards and a score Kaufman completed 17 of 34 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted twice.

West Shamokin put two players over 100 yards rushing with Horner leading the way with 144 yards on 14 carries. Wingard finished with 122 yards on 27 carries and three touchdowns on runs of 4 and 19 yards to go along with his touchdown reception.

ST. MARYS 24, BELLEFONTE 0

ST. MARYS — Alex Feldbauer rushed for 156 yards on 26 carries and scored three touchdowns in the St. Marys Flying Dutchmen’s 24-0 shutout of visiting Bellefonte Friday night.

Feldbauer raised his season total to 1,583 yards, which set a new team single-season record previously held by Kevin Hoy who ran for 1,513 yards in 2009.

St. Marys plays Karns City in next weekend’s District 9 Class AA playoffs.

NORTHERN BEDFORD 27, PUNXSUTAWNEY 21

LOYSBURG — Northern Bedford rallied for two fourth-quarter touchdowns to get by visiting Punxsutawney, 27-21, Friday night.

The Chucks (5-5) led 21-14 going into the final quarter, but Caleb Ebersole ran for two touchdowns to lead the Panthers’ comeback. His 6-yard run with 9:23 remaining tied the game and then after a Chucks turnover, he scored on an 18-yard run with 4:07 left.

For good measure, Ebersole stopped the Chucks’ potential go-ahead drive by intercepting Garrett Zimmerman with just over a minute left to seal the win. Eberssol finished with 81 yards rushing while teammate Conner Kagarise rushed for 87 yards. Quarterback Blake Over, despite throwing for over 1,700 yards this year, finished with 42 through the air against the Chucks.

Chucks fullback Jamie Bush had a strong night, rushing for 136 yards on 27 carries and scoring on a 15-yard run. He also hauled in a 9-yard TD reception from Zimmerman, who completed 8 of 13 passes for 79 yards. He also connected with Alex Bevak on a 24-yard scoring play.

Northern Bedford (9-1) dominated on special teams, scoring touchdowns off a blocked punt and fake field goal play. Kagarise returned a blocked punt 35 yards for the Panthers’ first touchdown while Kyler Diehl threw a TD pass to Drew Gartland off a fake 26-yard field goal attempt to put the Panthers up 14-7 midway through the second quarter.

Punxsutawney meets Somerset in next week’s District 5-6-8-9 Sub-Regional playoffs.

OTTO-ELDRED 49, COWANESQUE VALLEY 6

WESTFIELD — Sam Colebert rushed for 242 yards on just 19 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Otto-Eldred Terrors to a 49-6 rout of Cowanesque Valley Friday night.

SLIPPERY ROCK 17, DUBOIS 15

DuBOIS — Capturing the District 10 Region 5 title, the Slippery Rock Rockets dealt DuBois its first loss of the season with a 17-15 win on the road Friday night.

Slippery Rock (9-1 overall, 6-0 Region 5) limited the high-scoring Beavers (8-1)  to 276 yards of offense and one offensive touchdown and recovered three DuBois fumbles. The Rockets also scored on two plays of 90 or more yards, including a 94-yard run by Frank Conlon and a 90-yard punt return from Chris Reeseman in the third quarter.

The Beavers scored first on Tyler Fleeger’s 15-yard fumble return in the first quarter and got to within 17-15 when Garrett Brown scored on a 1-yard run less than a minute into the fourth quarter, but the Beavers’ run for two points and a tie game came up short.

Brown was limited to 81 yards on 22 carries. Beavers quarterback Gabe French completed 11 of 20 passes for 136 yards. Jared Baummer caught six passes for 73 yards. For Slippery Rock, Conlon rushed for 141 yards on nine carries.

CLARION 34, BROOKVILLE 6

CLARION  – John Katis threw three touchdown passes, including two to Camron Kirkland, as Clarion finished off its sixth unbeaten, untied season in school history with a 34-6 win over visiting Brookville Friday night at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium.

Katis was 7 of 21 for 123 yards and the three scores and sits just 17 yards shy of the school single-season passing record of 1,263 yards set by Drew Zwald in 1968. The three scoring passes give him 18 on the year expanding on his school record.

Kirkland, meanwhile, had two catches for 73 yards grabbing touchdown passes of 40 and 33 yards from Katis. He has scored six touchdowns in the past two weeks including his first four receiving scores of the season.

Meanwhile, fellow receiver Cody Hearst had three catches for 49 yards including a 29-yard score and set the single-season Bobcat receiving yards mark with 573 breaking Kirkland’s one-year old record of 554.

T.J. Armstrong added a 16-yard touchdown run for Clarion, while Damien Slike had a 15-yard scoring run.

The Bobcats (10-0) scored three touchdowns in a span of 2:43 in the second quarter thanks to a pair of Brookville (6-4) turnovers and a Clarion kickoff the Bobcats recovered at the Brookville 29-yard line. That took a 7-0 Clarion lead and turned it into a 28-0 halftime lead.

Zach Vroman, who rushed for a game-high 147 yards on 13 carries, broke the ice for Brookville with a 98-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, the longest scoring play in Raider history, to cut the lead to 28-6. But Clarion answered 40 seconds later on the Slike touchdown run.

In all, Clarion’s five scoring drives took 5:22 seconds and just 14 plays. Brookville turned the ball over four times not including the kickoff play.

Pascuzzi rushed for 143 yards on 21 carries and scored on runs of 5 and 25 yards in the first half that saw the Knight lead 29-6 by halftime. Alex Johnson needed just five carries to gain 110 yards, with much of it coming on his 94-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Gremlins quarterback Tyler Kepple completed 10 of 18 passes for 114 yards. The Gremlins outgained Marion Center (3-7), 336-194. Zach Moore led Karns City in rushing with 66 yards, which included a 44-yard touchdown run.
