The awards list grew again for Port Allegany
record-setting quarterback Matt Bodamer Wednesday when he was named the
Pennsylvania Football News Class A Offensive Player of the Year for
Pennsylvania. Bodamer, who is the first quarterback in state
history to throw for over 10,000 yards and holds the state record for
both career passing yards (10,948) and career passing touchdowns (137),
threw for a Pennsylvania single-season record 3,951 yards while tying
the single-season state record for touchdown passes with 52 this year.
He added 832 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns while being named The Rehab
Centre D9Sports.com Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the
Year. He helped Port Allegany to a school-record 13 wins (13-1) and the
school’s first trip to the PIAA Class A semifinals. The Gators won the
District 9 Class A title for the second straight year. Bodamer, who was also the PFN’s first-team Class A
quarterback, is one of 15 District 9 athletes named All-State by the
publication and one of 11 District 9 Class A players named All-State by
the PFN. Joining Bodamer on the first-team PFN Class A
offense are teammate Nick Conway, a wide receiver, Curwensville
offensive lineman Spencer Smeal and Brockway kicker Phil Esposito, The
Rehab Centre D9Sports.com District 9 Special Teams Player of the Year. On the first-team Class A PFN defense are Clarion
linebacker T.J. Armstrong, The Rehab Centre D9Sports.com District 9
Defensive Player of the Year, Union defensive back Brody Shick and Port
Allegany defensive lineman Nick Budd. Clearfield linebacker Christian Lezzer is a PFN
Class AAA first-team choice at linebacker. Second-team selections in Class A include Port
Allegany wide receiver Tyce Miller, Brockway wide receiver Jacob Perrin
and Union punter Kaden McGregor, while Clearfield wide receiver Trey
Jordan is a Class AAA second-team choice. Port Allegany linebacker Alex Gular (Class A),
Brookville offensive lineman Nate Nosker (Class AA) and Clearfield
offensive lineman Hunter Keith (Class AAA), The Rehab Centre
D9sports.com District 9 Offensive Lineman of the Year, are all
third-team PFN all-state selections. NOTES – Bodamer, Conway, Smeal, Armstrong and
Esposito are all making their second all-state teams this year. The five
were also members of the Pennsylvania Sports Writers all-state team in
Class A … Bodamer is the second
District 9 player to earn PFN Player of the Year honors in three seasons
as Brockway’s Derek Buganza was Class AA Co-player of the Year in Class
AA in 2010 … Bodamer was also the Pennsylvania Gatorade Football Player
of the Year in 2012, a honor that combines academic and athletic
achievement.
