2012 MaxPreps Small School All-American Team

CAMERON PARK, Calif. – Port Allegany quarterback Matt Bodamer was named a first-team 2012 MaxPreps Small School All-American at quarterback while Gator wide receiver Nick Conway was a second-team choice at wide receiver.

The two players are believed to be the first District 9 athletes named to the MaxPreps football All-American team.

The first-team selection is just another award in the long-line of awards from the 2012 season for Bodamer, who was also the Pennsylvania Football News Mister Football, the Pennsylvania Football News Class A Offensive Player of the Year, a first-team Pennsylvania Football News Class A selection at quarterback, a first-team Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class A selection at quarterback, The Rehab Centre D9Sports.com District 9 Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year and the Pennsylvania Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year in Pennsylvania, an award that combines academic and athletic success.

Bodamer is the first player in Pennsylvania history to throw for over 10,000 career yards throwing for a state-record 10,948 yards while also throwing a state-record 137 touchdown passes. Rushing for over 2,000 yards (2,315) in his career as well, he scored 40 touchdowns on the ground.

In 2012, Bodamer led Port Allegany to its second straight District 9 Class A title and to the PIAA Class A semifinals while helping the Gators to a school-record 13 wins (13-1). He was 227 of 323 passing (70.3 percent) for a Pennsylvania-record 3,951 yards while trying the Pennsylvania record for single-season touchdown passes with 52. He threw just eight interceptions, a common theme in a career that saw him complete 65.1 percent (643 of 988) of his passes with just 28 interceptions (one every 35.3 attempts). He also ran 133 times for 841 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Bodamer’s junior and senior seasons saw him combine to throw for 7,717 yards and 101 touchdowns against just 14 interceptions.

Conway, who was also a Pennsylvania Football News and Pennsylvania Sports Writers first-team Class A selection at wide receiver, set a District 9 record with 77 catches for 1,482 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. He really burst onto the scene in 2012 after catching just 18 passes for 244 yards and seven scores in his first two varsity campaigns.
