Clearfield starts season as No. 1 ranked team in District 9

CLARION, Pa. – With five straight District 9 Class AAA titles, Clearfield has been one of the premier programs in District 9, and the Bison open the 2015 season on top of the D9sports.com District 9 Football Rankings.

Clearfield was 9-3 overall a season ago and finished second in the District 5-6-8-9 sub-regional.

Another multiple-time champion sits at No. 2 in the inaugural 2015 rankings, with Karns City, who has taken home the last three District 9 Class AA titles while taking home six of the last eight, coming off an 11-2 season and a berth in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals.

Sept. 1Brockway, last year’s D9 Class A runner-up with a record of 7-6, sits at No. 3 followed by Clarion, the 2013 Class A champion and a semifinalist last year with a 10-2 mark, coming in at No. 4. DuBois, which was 8-3 in 2014, is No. 5, Class AA runner-up St. Marys, who went 8-4 a year ago, is No. 6, followed by defending Class A champion Kane, which went 9-4, is in at No. 7. No. 8 is Curwensville, fresh off a 6-5 mark, with Redbank Valley, which went 7-3, ranked No. 9 and Punxsutawney, which went 6-5, at No. 10.  

Clearfield will get tested right out of the gate when it hosts two-time defending Maryland Class A champion Fort Hill (Md.) Friday night.
