Dec. 18, 2019 Girls’ Basketball Recaps: Deyarmin Three Late in Double OT Lifts Smethport to Win; Logue Scores 30 for Union

SMETHPORT 33, NORTHERN POTTER 32, 2 OVERTIMES

SMETHPORT, Pa. – MyKayla Deyarmin hit a 3-pointer with 2.6 left in the second overtime to give Smethport a 33-32 win over visiting Northern Potter in NTL action.

The triple was one of two Deyarmin hit in the game on her way to eight points and the only shot and points scored by Smethport in the second overtime, as the game was tied at 30 after one overtime after being tied at 28 at the end of regulation.

Deyarmin was the second-leading scorer for the Lady Hubbers, as Sabrina Tanner led the way with 10 points. Deyarmin added six rebounds, six steals, three assists and a block with Tanner completing a double-double with 10 rebounds Abby Lutz chipped in three points, three rebounds and three steals.

The game was tied at 28 at the end of regulation and at 30 b before the teams combined for nine total points in the two overtime periods.

Courtney Martin led Northern Potter with 10 points with Megan Hyde scoring eight.

NORTH CLARION 62, A-C VALLEY 28

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – North Clarion overcame a slow start to blowout visiting A-C Valley, 62-28.

The She-Wolves struggled from the field through nearly three quarters hitting 7 of their first 34 shots from the field and led by just four, 27-23, with 2:32 to play in the third quarter.

But North Clarion hit 14 of its final 18 points and went on a 35-5 run to end the game.

Defense played a big role in the win.

The She-Wolves turned A-C Valley over 42 times and held the Lady Falcons to 9 of 30 shooting including 1 of 15 in the second half.

Abby Gatesman led the way for North Clarion with 23 points, eight rebounds and seven steals. Gabby Schmader added 11 points and three steals with Haley Sherman adding 10 points, nine rebounds and a steal. Mackenzie Bauer also had nine points, six steals and three rebounds, and Trinity Thompson had four points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Gatesman was named the Hager Paving Player of the Game and talked about the victory.

Rachel Cullen paced A-C Valley with 11 points, six rebound and three steals with Baylee Blauser adding seven points.

UNION 66, CLARION-LIMESTONE 35

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Dominika Logue exploded for a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds to help visiting Union defeat Clarion-Limestone, 66-35.

Logue’s previous career high came last year when, as a freshman, she scored 29 vs. Moniteau January 25.

Kennedy Vogle added11 points, Keira Croyle eight and Hailey Kriebel seven for the Golden Damsels.

Kendall Dunn paced the Lady Lions with eight points.

RIDGWAY 30, CURWENSVILLE 18

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Gabby Rohr netted 14 points to lead visiting Ridgway past AML rival Curwensville, 30-18.

Brianna Swindell paced the Lady Tide with five points. Hannah Condon and Tarah Jacobson each added four tallies.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 43, DUBOIS 32

DUBOIS, Pa. – Taylor Newton’s monster game of 18 points, 20 rebounds and four blocked shots led visiting Elk County Catholic to a 43-32 D9 League win over DuBois.

Brooke Bauer added 10 points for the Lady Crusaders.

Abby Guiher hit three 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 11 points for DuBois, while Saige Weible added eight points.

CRANBERRY 39, KARNS CITY 33

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Ava Ferringer netted 13 points to pace Cranberry to a 39-33 KSAC South win at Karns City.

Kaia Dean added nine points and seven rebounds for the Berries with Maddie Cornelius scoring seven points and dishing out five assists.

Emma Johns led Karns City with a game-high 15 points while hitting three 3-pointers.

COUDERSPORT 59, GALETON 29

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Elizabeth Frame’s 17 points led a trio of double-digit scorers to help lift Coudersport past Galeton, 59-29.

Sarah Chambers added 14 tallies for the Lady Falcons with Rosalyn Page chipping in 13.

The Lady Tigers were paced by Lauren Sauley, who netted 11 points.

CAMERON COUNTY 60, AUSTIN 16

AUSTIN, Pa. – Hailey Hilfer recorded a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals as Cameron County earned a 60-16 victory over Austin on the road.

Kaelee Bresslin also scored 20 points to lead the Lady Raiders offense. Mallory McKimm added 13 tallies, six rebounds and six steals.

Taylor Brewer paced the Austin offense with six points while adding five boards and four blocks.

PORT ALLEGANY 55, OTTO-ELDRED 50

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Behind 26 points and five rebounds from Cailey Barnett, Port Allegany outlasted Otto-Eldred, 55-50 on the road.

Bre Garzel netted 11 points and had five assists for the Lady Gators. Gracie Archer added 10 points and grabbed six rebounds with Shannon Curfman chipping in four tallies and six rebounds.

Katie Sheeler had 12 points to pace the Lady Terrors and Bri Heller added 10.

PENNS MANOR 52, PUNXSUTAWNEY 40

CLYMER, Pa. – A tough shooting night hurt Punxsutawney in a 52-40 road loss at Penns Manor.

The Lady Chucks converted just 14 of 46 (30.4 percent) if their shots from the field.

Sarah Weaver (13 points) and Riley Presloid (12 points) led Punxsutawney, which led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 24-18 at halftime. Chloe Presloid chipped in with nine tallies. Weaver also had five rebounds, four assists and four steals, while Ryley Casaday had a team-best nine boards to go with six points and Abby Gigliotti added seven rebounds.

Lauren Bagley tickled the twine for a game-high 20 points for Penns Manor with Kassidy Smith adding 11.
