CLARION, Pa. – Behind three Emily LoPresti goals, the Karns City girls’ soccer team continued its dominance of District 9 soccer winning its 17th D9 title in the past 20 years with a 6-0 victory over upstart DuBois Central Catholic Thursday night at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium in the Class A championship tilt.

The top-seeded Lady Gremlins (14-1), who have won three straight D9 titles, wasted little time ending the Cinderelli run of the 11th-seeded Lady Cardinals scoring twice in the game’s first four minutes, including LoPresti’s first goal of the game four minutes in.

Megan McCartney netted what turned out to be the championship-winning goal in the third minute of action to give Karns City a 1-0 lead. LoPresti’s first tally made it 2-0, and then McCartney scored again to make it 3-0 before LoPresti gave the Lady Gremlins a 4-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, LoPresti made it 5-0, and Aubrey Ball closed out the scoring with her first goal to set the final score.

Karns City will face WPIAL third-place team Shady Side Academy in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium.
