BASEBALL

KARNS CITY 4, BROCKWAY 0

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Jimmy Thompson threw a three-hit shutout, as Karns City beat visiting Brockway, 4-0, at Fairview Field.

Thompson struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter.

Evan Stitt drove in a pair of runs for the Gremlins while going 2-for-3. Holden Martin was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Seth Shugarts, Michael Martino and Tony Isabella had the hits for Brockway,

Shugarts took the loss going four innings allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits while striking out four.

Karns City improves to 14-5 on the year with Brockway dropping to 5-7.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 6, BROOKVILLE 1

ST. MARYS, Pa. – A four-run sixth innings helped Elk County Catholic break open a one-run game and get a 6-1 win over visiting Brookville at Berwind Park in St. Marys.

The Crusaders led 2-1 going to the sixth but put the game away with the four-run inning.

Jared Braun was 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored to lead ECC, while Ross Brennen scored twice and Dan Stauffer had a pair of hits.

Brennen and Gabe Kraus combined on a four-hitter with Brennen giving up three hits and an unearned run in four innings in a no-decision. Kraus got the win going three innings and allowing a hit and a walk while striking out five.

Jordan Tosh drove in Brookville’s run, which was scored by Ben Reitz, who was 2-for-3.

Wyatt Shaffer took the loss going 5 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out one.

ECC is 14-2. Brookville is 7-10.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 5, CLEARFIELD 0

PHILIPSBURG, Pa. – Gage Coudriet threw a seven-hit shutout to lead Philipsburg-Osceola to a 5-0 win over visiting Clearfield.

Coudriet also walked two while striking out one. But he worked around the base runners forcing the Bison to leave eight on base.

Logan Williamson had a triple for the Mounties, while Trey Shaw had a double. Both batters scored runs, and Williamson had an RBI.

Zane Morgan was 2-for-4 for Clearfield, while Will Myers was 2-for-3.

Clearfield falls to 9-8.

JOHNSONBURG 7, EISENHOWER 4

WILCOX, Pa. – Johnsonburg ended Eisenhower’s 12-game win streak with a 7-4 win over the visiting Knights at the field in Wilcox.

The Rams broke a four-all tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Johnny Mitchell broke the tie with an RBI single, and Neil MacDonald added a two-run single to set the final score.

MacDonald was 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Jeremy Breier also had a pair of RBIs for the Rams.

Justin Kasmierski got the win going seven innings allowing four unearned runs on five hits and four walks while striking out four.

Jake Harvey was 2-for-4 for Eisenhower with a run scored and an RBI.

Allen Jackson took the loss going two innings allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out one.

Johnsonburg improved to 6-11 with the win.

NORTH CLARION 10, UNION 0, 5 INNINGS

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Zander Hargenrader tossed a one-hitter, as North Clarion shutout visiting Union, 10-0 in five innings.

Zayn Hargenrader ended the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.

No other information was available.

North Clarion moved over .500 to 8-7. Union dropped to 4-12.

HOLLIDAYSBURG 14, ST. MARYS 4, 6 INNINGS

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. – Tyler Peterson, Cory Storm and Lennox Pugh combined to drive in 10 runs, as Hollidaysburg beat visiting St. Marys, 14-4, in six innings.

Peterson was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs, Storm was 4-for-5 with a home run and a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored and Pugh was 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs and a run scored.

Jeff Wehler had a nice game for St. Marys going 2-for-3 with a home run and a triple while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Adam Piccolo was also 2-for-2 for the Dutch.

Aaron Smith got the win going six innings allowing four runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out five.

Hunter Fantechi took the loss going 2 ⅓ innings allowing five runs on five hits and three walks.

St. Marys is now 6-11.

<strong>COUDERSPORT 19, CANTON 8</strong>

CANTON, Pa. – Hunter Redmond and Aaron Wolfinger each drove in three runs to lead visiting Coudersport to  19-8 win over Canton.

Wolfinger was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Redmond was 2-for-3 a double.

Elliott Hite was also 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored, and Josh Stevens scored three times.

Hite, the second of four pitchers, got the win. He threw 1 1/3 innings walking one and striking out two.

SOFTBALL

YOUNGSVILLE 9, JOHNSONBURG 4

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Elyssa Horn, Madi Fehlman and Maddie Cratty helped visiting Youngsville pull the upset over Johnsonburg, 9-4.

Horn, who was the winning pitcher, was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. She also pitched seven innings allowing four runs, two earned, on 10 hits and a walk while striking out eight.

Fehlman also drove in two runs and was 1-for-5, while Cratty was 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.

Nicole Myers was 3-for-4 for Johnsonburg with a run scored. Ashton Watts went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Britnee Thorwart had a double.

Hannah Park took the loss going two innings allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks while striking out three.

Johnsonburg is now 12-5 on the season.
