Moniteau’s Kimmel to continue track & field career at Penn

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Moniteau senior Maura Kimmel will continue her track and field career at the University of Pennsylvania next year.

Kimmel, a thrower, is the second Moniteau female athlete ever to commit to a Division 1 school according to the Butler Eagle joining Alyssa Deal, who went to Jacksonville a decade ago.

Kimmel finished ninth in the discus at the PIAA Class AA meet last year with a throw of 120 feet, three inches. She was also 14th in the shot put with a toss of 36-8.75. She won the District 9 Class AA titles in both events in 2015 throwing the shot put 38-5.5 and the discus 133-01.

Kimmel holds the school record in the discus with a throw of 139-6 and is looking to set the school mark in the shot put, which is 43-3 set by Jayne Beatty. Her best throw going into this year in the shot was 41-1.

According to her father, Dan, Maura enters the 2016 outdoor season with a top-3 ranking in the state of Pennsylvania in the discus after finishing with a statewide ranking of P4 in the shot put and P5 in the Weight during the 2015-16 indoor season.

A great student as well – you have to be to get into Ivy League Penn – Kimmel ranks second in her glass and holds a 4.0 grade point average. She will study chemical engineering at Penn.
