Player Profile: Jake Meeker, St. Marys

JAKE MEEKER – SENIOR – ST. MARYS

Son of: A.J. and Traci Meeker (dad is the baseball coach at St. Marys)
Sports Played: Soccer and baseball
Family Members Playing/Played Sports: Uncles Troy and Josh Meeker (Josh was the girls’ basketball coach at Union for a time winning multiple D9 titles), Aunt Bethany Burns Thompson
2018-19 Highlights: Helped St. Marys win its second consecutive District 9 soccer championship … Was named a 2019 Alleghany Big School All-Star in baseball after hitting a team-leading .446 with two doubles, a triple, 13 RBIs and 20 runs scored. Also stole seven bases and threw out 75 percent (6 of 8) of runners attempting to steal on him as the starting catcher.
Post-High School Plans: He would like to play baseball in college.

Q&A With Jake Meeker

D9Sports: What is your favorite sport to participate in and why?
JM: Baseball – I have always loved it for as long as I can remember.

D9Sports: What is your favorite memory, moment, game from playing high school sports?
JM: The 2018 D9 Baseball Championship.

D9Sports: Why do you play high school sports?
JM: I’ve always loved playing sports plus it makes the school year fly by.

D9Sports: Who has had the most influence on your athletic career and why?
JM: My baseball coaching staff. They are all like fathers to me.

D9Sports: If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be and why?
JM: Be allowed to play more baseball games per season. My team is like my family and I would like to play ball with them as long as possible.

D9Sports: If you could be president for a day, what would be the one major thing you would do?
JM: Meet with the US Women’s Soccer Team-and have dinner with Alex Morgan.

D9Sports: What is your ideal place to live? County, City, Suburb? Why?
JM: I’ve always wanted to live in a city. There is a lot of stuff to do-I enjoy seeing and doing new things. I’m not a big outdoors man.

D9Sports: What would someone who doesn’t know you be surprised to find out about you?
JM: I love to watch high school and college wrestling.

D9Sports: What is your strongest subject in school?
JM: Social Studies

D9Sports: If there was one period in history or one event in history you could go back to, what would it be?
JM: I would love to watch Jackie Robinson play ball.

D9Sports: What question do you wish I would have asked you? And what is the answer to it?
JM: If you could meet a famous person, who would it be? Alex Bregman
