D9Sports.com and EYT Media are doing a series of player profiles on returning high-school athletes this summer. The year in school listed by the athlete is the year the athlete is entering this fall.

TESSA WEAVER – JUNIOR – KEYSTONE

Daughter of: Buck and Cindy Weaver

Sports Played: Volleyball, Basketball, Track & Field

2016-17 Highlights: An injury kept Weaver out of competition until track season where she came back strong with a 15th-place finish in the D9 100-meter dash (13.77). As a freshman, she was a key cog in Keystone’s District 9 Class 1A title team averaging 3.2 points per game while playing a key role off the bench.

Post-High School Goals: Tessa isn’t sure what she wants to do after college but she is either going to join the Navy or continue on to college. If she goes to college, she will most likely participate in sports.

Q&A With Tessa Weaver

D9Sports: What is your favorite sport to participate in?
TW: Basketball

D9: What is your favorite memory, moment, game from playing high school sports?
TW: My favorite memory was definitely when we won District 9 in basketball my freshman year.

D9: Why do you play high school sports?
TW: I play high school sports because it’s always been a dream of mine. It gives me something to do and keeps me active and in shape. I play because I can, the past year with my knee injury I haven’t been able to play and I didn’t realize how lucky I was to have the ability to.

D9: Is there a high school player on your team or another team that you enjoy watching play? If so, why?
TW: I loved watching Kaci Weaver and Alyssa Beichner play basketball. I’ve watched them play and have played with them since I was little. They play amazing together and always seem to find each other on the court. I love watching Kaci play defense because she is everywhere and comes out of nowhere. Alyssa is solid and is good for any forward player to watch. She uses a lot of post moves and I’ve learned a lot off of her.

D9: When not playing sports I would rather (pick one) – Go to work, play video games, shop, hang out with friends, play pickup sports, go the movies
TW: Probably hang out with friends. Most my friends live 45 minutes away. I don’t see them much during school so in summer when I don’t have summer league I go hang with them!

D9: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
TW: I’d go and see the Huangshan Mountains in China. I’d go there because the mountains are very unique and the scenery is beautiful.

D9: Who has had the most influence on you as a person?
TW: My dad has probably had the most influence on me as a person. He’s pushed me to do my best my whole life even when I didn’t like it. He’s helped me through some of the hard times in my life and I probably would’ve given up or quit without his help. I’d definitely not be who I am without him in my life.

D9: What do you like most about growing up in your hometown?
TW: I like that there is a lot of woods and privacy. You’re not overwhelmed by loads of people.

D9: What do you wish you could change about growing up in your hometown?
TW: I wish I there was more to do for high school students. It’s kind of boring around here!

D9: What question do you wish I would have asked you? And what is the answer to it?
TW: I wish you would’ve asked: “If you could have one dream come true what would it be?” My answer would be to have Josselin (Geer; who left Keystone after the 2016 season) back for Kaci and Alyssa’s senior year and for all of us to stay healthy, play tougher. I’d kill to play one more game with the group of us that have played together since fourth grade.

D9: Do you or have you had any siblings or other immediate relatives who have played high school sports?
TW: Yes! All of my sisters have played high school sports. Wendy Ferguson, Samantha Ferguson (Schwabenbauer), Kaci Weaver and Jozee Weaver. Jozee is going into 8th grade and the rest have graduated!
