WEXFORD, Pa. – Haley Scherer’s header goal off a corner kick with 12 minutes to play helped District 9 champion Karns City stun WPIAL champ Greensburg Central Catholic in the PIAA Class A girls’ soccer quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at North Allegheny High School.
Megan McCartney, who had tied the game on a penalty kick, shot the corner that Scherer got a head on to beat the GCC keeper for the eventual game winner.

The game was scoreless at halftime before a wild second half saw the Lady Gremlins take a 1-0 lead on a goal by Brianna Brusamonti.
Greensburg Central, though, tied the game three minutes after the Brusamonti tally before the Centurions took the lead a few minutes later.
But McCartney’s penalty kick with less than 25 minutes to play tied it, and Scherer’s goal won it.
