CLARION, Pa. – A 19-9 third-quarter advantage helped Ridgway break open a one-point halftime lead and get a 60-43 win over Union in the District 9 Class A boys’ consolation game Saturday afternoon at Tippin Gym.
The Elkers (23-4) led by just a point, 26-25, at the break but used a suffocating defense in the second half to pull away from Union (17-9).
The Golden Knights turned the ball over 10 times in the second half (18 all together) and shot just 8 of 20 after halftime.
Sophomore Neil MacDonald led the charge for Ridgway scoring eight of his 20 points in the third quarter.
Senior Jeremy Breier also added 20 points, nine from the line, and nine rebounds for Ridgway, while Andy Breier contributed 12 tallies.
Lucas Bowser paced Union with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Cole Morris finished with 13 points.
Both teams move into the PIAA playoffs.
Ridgway takes on District 6 champion, Homer-Center, while Union faces WPIAL titleist, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic.
