SOFTBALL
CLARION 25, VENANGO CATHOLIC 9, 3 INNINGS
OIL CITY, Pa. – An 18-run first inning keyed a 25-9, three-inning win for Clarion over Venango Catholic Tuesday afternoon in Oil City.
Keanna Over and Anna Reed each drove in four runs apiece for the Lady Cats with Over going 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and three runs scored and Reed going 4-for-5 with a three triples and four runs scored. Johnna Rapp added a 3-for-5 day with three RBIs and a run scored. Alo with a pair of hits were Sadie Rudesyle, Cora Zerfoss, Mackenzie DiTullio and Carly Best. DiTullio and Zerfoss also drove in two runs, as did Liz Sarver.
Rudesyle and Zerfoss pitched fo Clarion with all the runs coming against Zerfoss.
CLARION-LIMESTONE 12, FOREST AREA 0, 5 INNINGS
STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Clarion-Limestone used a pair of five-run innings to spearhead a 12-0, five-inning win over visiting Forest Area in the season opener for both teams Tuesday.
The Lady Lions scored five in the first and then added five more in the third.
Megan Schimp scored three runs for C-L, while Olivia Shilling scored twice. Sadie Mahle had a pair of RBIs and was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Alyssa Kiser had a two-run single in the third, and Abby Carl added an RBI double.
Kiser got the win giving up just two hits while striking out five.
The Lady Fires got hits from Cassie Cochran and Ally Carll. Jasmine Ginnery took the loss.
MONITEAU 6, REVERE (OHIO) 5, 8 INNINGS
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Kristina DeMatteis’ two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth scored Courtney Sowinski from third base to give Moniteau a 6-5 win over Revere (Ohio) at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tuesday.
Sowinski started the inning with a walk.
Winning pitcher Kennedy DeMatteis led the offensive outburst for the Lady Warriors going 3-for-4 with a double. Sara Hull added a pair of singles and two RBIs, while Alazia Greaves had three singles and a RBI and Megan Hepler had a double and a run scored.
Kennedy DeMatteis went all eight innings striking out 12 and walking two.
Moniteau is 1-0 on the year and has games Wednesday and Thursday in Myrtle Beach.
CENTRAL-MARTINSBURG 11, CLEARFIELD 0, 5 INNINGS
CLEARFIELD, Pa. – Jenna Ritchey had three hits and three runs scored to lead visiting Central-Martinsburg to an 11-0 win over Clearfield Tuesday.
Kaitlyn Thompson picked up the win for the Lady Dragons allowing three hits and two walks.
Erica Hanes, Makayla Ross and Raeleigh Redden each had a hit for Clearfield. Redden took the loss giving up six earned runs in five innings of work.
BASEBALL
CLEARFIELD 11, CENTRAL-MARTINSBURG 5
CLEARFIELD, Pa. – Ty Bender had a home run a double and four RBIs to lead Clearfield to an 11-5 win over visiting Central-Martinsburg Tuesday.
Zane Morgan also went deep for the Bison while driving in three.
Brandon Orsich got the win on the mound for Clearfield.
CLARION-LIMESTONE 22, FOREST AREA 2, 3 INNINGS
STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – A 14-run second inning helped Clarion-Limestone roll to a season-opening 22-2 win in three innings over visiting Forest Area Tuesday.
The Lions sent 20 men to the plate in the epic second inning after taking an 8-0 lead at the end of one.
Christian Smith and Riley Hummell each drove in three runs for C-L with Smith going 2-for-4 with a run scored and Hummell going 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored.
Jake Zacherl added a pair of doubles for the Lions and was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Alex Acree also had a double. Acree finished 1-for-1 with two runs scored and an RBI. Taylor Smith scored four runs out of the leadoff spot and was 1-for-1 with three walks. Ian Hawthron also scored three times and went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Acree and Christian Smith combined to give up three hits. Acree gave up one hit in two innings striking out five. Smith gave up two unearned runs on two hits while striking out two in his inning of work.
Nic Smail, Manny Tirado and Austin Johnino each had hits for the Fires with Tirado and Smail scoring the Forest Area runs. Smail took the loss on the mound.
CLARION 15, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0, 4 INNINGS
OIL CITY, Pa. – Three multiple-run innings helped lead Clarion to a season-opening 15-0 win over Venango Catholic in four innings at Venango Tuesday.
The Bobcats scored four in the second and five each in the third and fourth to get the victory after taking a 1-0 lead after one.
Spencer Miller was 4-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and two RBIs to lead Clarion, while Leo Allieo was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Adrian Weber added a 2-for-3 performance with two RBIs and a run scored, and Bo Miller was 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Ryan Anthony scored three times, and Caleb Wilson added a double and two runs scored while going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Weber got the start and went two scoreless innings striking out four and allowing three walks but no hits. Sterling Conner and Reed Anthony each pitched an inning with Conner giving up the lone hit of the game for Venango Catholic, which was collected by Ian Hidinger.
Robert Felmlee took the loss for VC.
REDBANK VALLEY 15, UNION 4, 5 INNINGS
RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Adam Kunselmen went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead visiting Redbank Valley to a 15-4, five-inning win over Union Tuesday in the season opener for both teams.
Tanner Altobelli (2-for-3, 2 runs) and Grayson Harmon (2-for-3 with a double) each drove in a pair of runs for the Bulldogs, while Nick Shoemaker walked three times and scored three runs and Sam Heeter went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Bryan Layton pitched three innings for Redbank Valley and got the win giving up two hits and one unearned run while striking out eight.
For Union, Gavin Hawk had a pair of RBIs while Lucas Bowser had a double and a run scored. Hank Murphy took the loss.
KARNS CITY 16, KEYSTONE 6, 6 INNINGS
KNOX, Pa. – An eight-run third inning helped lift Karns City to a 16-6, six-inning road win at Keystone Tuesday.
The Gremlins (2-0) already led 6-0 when they exploded for the eight-run inning to push their lead to 14-0.
Freshman Nolan Riley drove in a pair of runs for Karns City and was 1-for-1 with a triple and two runs scored, while Hunter Schaffner also scored a pair of runs and was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Jimmy Thompson threw three scoreless innings for the Gremlins giving up one hit while striking out four.
Mason Rearick led Keystone going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Chad Rogers was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Alec Friedlund took the loss for the Panthers.
MONITEAU 12, A-C VALLEY 0, 5 INNINGS
BUTLER, Pa. – Behind three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored from Jake Jewart, Moniteau cruised to a season-opening 12-0, five-inning win over A-C Valley Tuesday at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler.
Jewart was 3-for-4 and also stole a pair of games.
Josh Adamson and Aaron Marterella were also both 2-for-4 with Marterella also driving in two runs and scoring twice and Adamson scoring two runs and hitting a double. Lake Pry added a pair of RBIs with Derek Boben going 1-for-3 with a triple and run scored.
Boben got the win going four innings and allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out 10. Derek Brown threw a scoreless fifth striking out all three batters he faced.
Dylan Stewart was 2-for-2 for the Falcons. Noah Morgan took the loss. He did strike out four.
Moniteau is next in action at 8:30 p.m. Thursday against Keystone at Kelly Automotive Park.
