PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – A four-run second inning helped fuel a 9-4 Punxsutawney win over visiting Clearfield Friday.
The game was tied at 1 when the Chucks exploded for the four-run inning with three of the runs coming with two outs. John Matthews had a big two-run single in the inning.
Matthews had a big game going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, two runs scored and four RBIs.
Peyton Graham was also 4-for-4 for Punxsutawney with a double and a run scored, while Braxton Giavedoni scored twice.
Lance Pennington got the win going the first four innings allowing one unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out five. Lucas Burkett went two innings giving up a run on three hits and a walk, while Joey DiPietro finished off going one inning giving up two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one.
Zane Morgan was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Clearfield with Ty Bender going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Brandon Orsich 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Jake Sorbera took the loss going two innings and allowing five runs on four hits and three walks. Justin Fedder finished off going four innings giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out one.
