SOFTBALL

CLARION 4, JOHNSONBURG 3, 8 INNINGS

CLARION, Pa. Sydney Kiser scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Clarion rallied from a two-run deficit going to the seventh to get a 4-3 win over visiting Johnsonburg.

The Lady Cats were down 3-1 heading to the seventh but tied the game despite not getting a hit in the inning. Two walks, an error, a pair of wild pitches and an RBI groundout by winning pitcher Sadie Rudesyle tied the game.

Kiser then led off the eighth with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and third on an error before scoring on another wild pitch.

Rudesyle picked up the victory in the circle allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven in eight innings of work. Four of the strikeouts came in the last three innings.

Kiser was on base four times going 2-for-2 with a walk and also reaching on an error on a sacrifice bunt. She scored once and stole a base.

Keanna Over, who scored the tying run in the seventh, was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Cora Zerfoss was also 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Lady Cats. Alexis Constantino chipped in a pair of singles, and MacKenzie DiTullio was on base twice with a hit and a walk and scored Clarion’s second run after starting the bottom of the seventh with a walk.

After the DiTullio walk, Over hit a comebacker to the circle, but Skylar Sherry’s throw went into centerfield giving Clarion life.

Sherry took the loss in relief. She went 3 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, one earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out three. Hannah Park started and went four innings allowing one unearned run on five hits.

Jaylie Johnson had a pair of hits for Johnsonburg, including a double. Britnee Thorwart drove in two runs, while Park had an RBI and Maddie Herzing a double.

Clarion is 13-7. Johnsonburg is 12-6.

A-C VALLEY 8, KARNS CITY 7, 8 INNINGS

CHICORA, Pa. – Kylie Eaton scored all the way from second on a groundout by Maddie Morrison in the top of the eighth inning giving A-C Valley an 8-7 win over Karns City.

Eaton started the inning with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Morrison then hit a grounder to third, and her throw forced the first baseman to go the ground to field the ball for the out allowing Eaton to sprint home.

Eaton was 2-for-4 on the day, while Morrison was 1-for-4 with the RBI. Lauren McNany went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, a triple and two RBIs. Cami McNany was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs for the Lady Falcons.

Ashley Coon led Karns City going 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple and a double while driving in four runs and scoring three. Alyssa Stitt was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Taylor Eakas drove in two for the Lady Gremlins.

Katie Stumpner got the win going all eight innings allowing seven runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out five.

LeeAnn Gibson took the loss going three innings allowing the one run. Mackenzie Shay started and went five innings allowing seven runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out three.

A-C Valley improved to 10-7 with the win. Karns City fell to 8-5.

MOSHANNON VALLEY 1, CURWENSVILLE 0, 8 INNINGS

HOUTZDALE, Pa. – Elimora-Hope Ecklund’s game-winning single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Moshannon Valley a 1-0 win over Curwensville.

Ecklund finished the night 3-for-4 and made a winner out of Sidney Lewis, who threw a five-hit gem. Lewis didn’t walk a batter and struck out four.

Rylee Young matched Lewis zero-for-zero threw 7 ⅔ innings before allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out five.

Kayley Harnett had a double for the Lady Tide, who fell to 9-9.

CLEARFIELD 2, HOLLIDAYSBURG 0, 8 INNINGS

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. – Aspen Bishop’s two-run single in the top of the eighth following an error and infield singles by Alana Kochan and Brooke Cline gave Clearfield a 2-0 win over Hollidaysburg.

Bishop’s single broke a string of 23 scoreless innings for Clearfield.

Cline had a pair of hits, including a double, while Nikki Brossard had three hits, including a double, and Sierra Jones two hits.

Mikayla Focht had a pair of doubles for Hollidaysburg.

Raeleigh Redden got the win throwing an eight-inning, five-hitter. She walked one and struck out four.

Emily Dick took the loss allowing two runs, one earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out nine in eight innings.

Clearfield is now 7-10.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 3, VENANGO CATHOLIC 2

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Abby Carl drove home Sadie Mahle and Tabita Switzer, as Clarion-Limestone walked off Venango Catholic, 3-2.

Down 2-1 going to the bottom of the seventh, Mahle singled and Alyssa Kiser had back-to-back one-out singles. Switzer then grounded into a fielder’s choice with Kiser out at second. Carl then hit a double scoring both runners.

Kiser had a pair of hits, including a double, while Switzer also had two hits.

Kiser picked up the win going seven innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits. She walked two, hit one and struck out five.

C-L is now 6-10.

MONITEAU 12, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0, 5 INNINGS

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – In a game that started Thursday in Oil City and finished Monday in Strattanville, Kennedy DeMatteis completed her fourth straight no-hitter to lead Moniteau to 12-0, five-inning win over Venango Catholic.

The contest was halted with two outs in the bottom of the fourth Thursday in Oil City with visiting Moniteau up 6-0. The Lady Warriors then added six more runs Monday at C-L following the C-L/Venango Catholic game.

Kennedy DeMatteis struck out nine giving her 175 strikeouts on the season and walked one. She also added two singles and had an RBI, her 37th on the season.

Kristina DeMatteis also had two hits, including a double, and scored twice. She had 10 doubles on the year now.

Sara Hull chipped in three hits, including a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, giving her 30 RBIs on the season, while Cortney Claypoole had two hits with a double, three runs scored and her 41st RBI of the year. Megan Hepler chipped in two singles, a run scored and two RBIs, and Courtney Sowinski also had a double and a single to go with a run scored and an RBI. Amanda Dailey added two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs, and Alyssa Dailey single and two RBIs to go with a run scored

Moniteau is 18-1. Venango Catholic is 4-8.

COUDERSPORT 5, PORT ALLEGANY 0

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Shaelyn Black hit two home runs and drove in four to help Coudersport improve to 10-3 on the year with a 5-0 win at Port Allegany.

Black was 4-for-4 to lead the Lady Falcons with Bianca Gooch and Macy Gleason each adding a pair of hits.

That was plenty of support for Katie Bertrand, who threw a four-hit shutout. She walked one and struck out one.

Makayla Daniels took the loss allowing five runs on 13 hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out three.

Port Allegany is 2-14.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 14, BROOKVILLE 1, 5 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Jordy Frank had four hits, including her 11th home run, and four RBIs to lead DuBois Central Catholic to a 14-1, five-inning win over Brookville in a game originally scheduled for Brookville but moved to DCC because of field conditions.

Tessa Sayers added three hits, including a pair of doubles, for the Lady Cardinals. Riley Assalone got the win going five innings allowing one run on six hits and striking out eight.

DCC is still unbeaten at 19-0. Brookville is 3-14.

REDBANK VALLEY 10, KEYSTONE 0

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Alyssa Burkett threw a five-inning no-hitter as Redbank Valley blanked Keystone, 10-0.

Burkett struck out nine, including her 100th of the season, and didn’t walk a batter. The only batter who reached base was Lexi Callender, who reached on an infield error to start the game.
From there, Burkett retired the next 15 batters.

The Lady Bulldogs scored seven runs in the first inning, sending 10 batters to the plate. Lauren Rearick, who went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in, hit a three-run double.

Lexi Holt also had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs, who improved to 8-7.

Keystone dropped to 4-11.

BASEBALL

ELK COUNtY CATHOLIC 2, CURWENSVILLE 0

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Ryan Heary and Gabe Kraus had fourth-inning RBIs, and Alex Dattoli threw a seven-hit shutout to lead Elk County Catholic to a 2-0 win over visiting Curwensville in the first game of a two-different-team doubleheader for the Crusaders at Berwind Park in St. Marys.

Dattoli walked one and struck out nine.

Ross Brennen led the ECC offense going 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Dan Stauffer was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

RJ Olson had two hits for Curwensville.

Austin Lansberry took the loss going four innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out three. Bryce Timko pitched two scoreless inning of relief giving up a hit while striking out two.

Curwensville is 6-12 on the season.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 4, ST. MARYS 3

ST. MARYS, Pa. – ECC made it a perfect day scoring tie-breaking run in the fifth inning on an error to beat rival St. Marys, 4-3.

Jordan Nasoni scored when Jared Braun reached on an error by rightfielder Aaron Piccolo with two outs in the fifth.

ECC had just four hits in the game, including two from Brad Dippold and two from Brennen, who also had an RBI.

St. Marys managed five hits and got RBIs from Piccolo, Jeff Wehler and Brandon Sicheri.

Kraus got the win going six innings allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out six. Brennen picked up the save allowing a walk and striking out a batter in a scoreless seventh.

Brendon Rolley took the loss in relief. He pitched three innings allowing an unearned run on a walk. He didn’t give up a hit. Tim Beimel started and went four innings allowing four hits and three runs, two earned. He walked seven and struck out one.

ECC moved to 16-2 on the year. St. Marys fell to 6-12.

BRADFORD 4, JOHNSONBURG 3

WILCOX, Pa. – Bradford scored three times in the top of the seventh to erase a one-run deficit and then held off Johnsonburg in the bottom of the inning to get a 4-3 win.

The Owls trailed 2-1 going to the seventh but took the lead on a two-run double to center by Danny Manion. Isaac Gralak then added an insurance run – one that ended up being very important – with a single to left.

Johnsonburg got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double to left by Josh Raubenstrauch. But Justin Kasmierski struck out, and reliever Andrew Bacha got Ben Freeburg to ground back to the mound to end the game.

Bryce Skaggs was 3-for-4 with a double for Bradford, while Connor Veceilio was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Raubenstrauch was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Johnsonburg.

Veceilio got the win going 6 ⅔ innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out seven. Bacha got the save getting the only batter he faced.

Jeremy Breier took the loss allowing four runs on 12 hits and two walks while striking out two.

Bradford is 8-10. Johnsonburg is 6-12.

KANE 5, BROCKWAY 3

KANE, Pa. – Jacob Lister had three hits, including a pair of doubles, drove in a run and scored a run while also picking up the save to lead Kane to its first win of the year, 5-3, over visiting Brockway.

Austin Jordan also drove in two runs for the Wolves, who got a strong tag-team pitching performance from Cyrus Novosel and Lister.

Novosel got the win going five innings and allowing three runs on eight hits. He struck out seven.

Lister earned the save with two scoreless innings of relief. He allowed a hit and two walks while striking out three.

Hunter Antonuccio led Brockway going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Tony Isabella was also 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Seth Shugarts suffered the loss lasting 1 ⅔ innings allowing four unearned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four. Michael Martino went 4 ⅓ innings allowing one unearned run on two hits and two walks while striking out six.

Kane is 1-12. Brockway is 5-8.

CLARION 9, BROOKVILLE 7

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. – Caleb Wilson had three hits, Leo Aiello added two hits and Bo Miller drove in two runs to lead Clarion to a 9-7 win over visiting Brookville.

Wilson was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Aiello was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Miller walked once. Cam Craig also added two hits and a run scored for the Bobcats.

Kyle Dunkle led Brookville going 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two runs scored and three RBIs. Logan Thrush was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Nick Keth had a two-run double in the seventh.

Reed Anthony got the win in relief of Miller. He went two innings allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out three.

Miller went the first three innings allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out two. Craig went two innings allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks.

Ben Reitz took the loss going 3 ⅔ innings allowing six runs, three earned on six hits and two walks while striking out three.

Clarion is 13-3. Brookville is 7-11.

SMETHPORT 3, CAMERON COUNTY 2

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Despite getting just two hits, Smethport beat visiting Cameron County, 3-2.

Brayden Southard had a double for the Hubbers, while Nate Hollowell had an RBI and a single.

Bryce Nelson got the win going five innings allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three.

Trea Smith had a triple, a run scored and an RBI.

Adam Shaffer took the loss going four innings allowing three runs, one earned, on one hit and five walks while striking out eight.

Smethport, which beat Northern Potter 4-3 in the second game of the day for the Hubbers, which improved to 6-10 on the season.

Cameron County is 5-10 and Northern Potter is 2-15.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 17, VENANGO CATHOLIC 5, 5 INNINGS

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Riley Hummell and Christian Smith each drove in three runs to lead Clarion-Limestone to a 17-5, five-inning win over visiting Venango Catholic.

Hummell was 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, while Smith was 1-for-3. Taylor Smith also had a triple and was 1-for-1 with three walks and four runs scored, while Ian Hawthorn was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Sam Leadbetter scored three times for the Lions and had two hits and an RBI, while Travis Preston also scored twice.

Josh Puleo had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for Venango Catholic with Ian Bain adding three RBIs for the Vikings.

Alex Acree, the third pitcher of the day for C-L, got the win going 2 ⅔ innings allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three.

Josh Puleo suffered the loss allowing eight runs, four earned, on three hits and three walks in 1 ⅓ innings.

C-L improved to 9-6. Venango Catholic fell to 3-13.

COUDERSPORT 8, PORT ALLEGANY 1

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Kullen Crosby and Josh Stevens each drove in two runs to lead visiting Coudersport to an 8-1 win over Port Allegany.

Crosby was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, and Stevens was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Nevada Waterman had a pair of doubles for the Falcons going 3-for-4 with an RBI out of the leadoff spot. Hunter Redmond and Aaron Wolfinger each added doubles and runs scored with Wolfinger picking up an RBI as well.

Mac Tanner was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Port Allegany with Tre Garzel driving him in.

Waterman got the win going five innings allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight. Austen Saulter threw two scoreless innings allowing a hit and a walk while striking out five.

Garzel took the loss allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out six in three innings.

Coudersport is 14-3. Port Allegany is 10-5.

A-C VALLEY 10, FOREST AREA 0, 5 INNINGS

PARKER, Pa. – John Anderson had three hits and two RBIs to lead A-C Valley to a 10-0, five-inning win over visiting Forest Area.

Anderson was 3-for-3 with three singles.

Noah Morgan got the win in relief going four innings and allowing three walks while striking out three and not allowing a hit. Tommy Amsler started and went an inning allowing two singles and striking out one.

Andrew Schwab and Dillon DiCorpo had Forest Area’s hits.

A-C Valley is 8-8. Forest Area is 0-16.

NORTH CLARION 4, CRANBERRY 3

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Tyler Wolbert drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the fourth inning to help North Clarion to a 4-3 win over visiting Cranberry in a game that was resumed Monday after being halted by rain Thursday.

Wolbert came to the plate in the fourth inning with the bases loaded, which was the point where the game was halted Thursday, and out the Wolves up 3-2 with his hit, one of two on the day for him.

Korey Mills added a triple of North Clarion, while Zayn Hargenrader doubled.

Griffin Schmader got the win allowing three runs in seven innings, two earned.

Seth Pochran had two hits for Cranberry, including a double.

North Clarion is 9-7. Cranberry is 9-6
