May 4 Softball Roundup: Clarion Rallies from Five Down to Beat Brookville

CLARION 9, BROOKVILLE 6

CLARION, Pa. – Four straight hits, including three doubles, with two outs in the fifth innings helped Clarion scored five runs in the innings and pull out a come-from-behind 9-6 win over visiting Brookville.

The Lady Cats, who trailed 5-0 after a ½ inning, were down 6-4 going to the fifth.

With one out, Carly Best bunted for a single and Alexis Constantino followed with a run-scoring triple to make it 6-5. An out later, Sadie Rudesyle doubled to tie the game, and Kate Constantino followed with a single to put Clarion in the lead. Doubles by Sydney Kiser and MacKenzie DiTullio followed to put the Lady Cats up 9-6.

Rudesyle talked about the victory.

Brookville scored five times, including four after an error that would have ended the inning, in the first with Leah Kammerdeiner’s single and three-base error on Kiser driving in the final three runs of the inning.

Clarion got a solo home run from Cora Zerfoss in the bottom of the first, then added a run in the second on an error before tacking on two more in the third to make it a game.

Best led Clarion going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Zerfoss was 2-fo-4 with the home run, a double, two run scored and an RBI. Rudesyle was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Jordan MacWilliams paced Brookville going 2-for-3 while also being hit by a pitch and scoring a run. Kammerdeiner was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, a run scored and a sacrifice fly that saw her reach when the right fielder dropped the ball.

Kate Constantino got the win going seven innings allowing six runs, two earned, on eight hits, three walks and a hit batter while striking out four.

Carlie McManigle took the loss pitching six innings allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 14 hits. She didn’t walk a batter and struck out four.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 7, BROCKWAY 1

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Macey Hanes scored four runs and Riley Assalone tossed a three-hitter to lead visiting DuBois Central Catholic to a 7-1 win over Brockway.

Hanes was 3-for-4 and stole a pair of bases, while Assalone, who had an RBI on offense, went seven innings allowing one unearned run in the first inning on three hits and a walk while striking out nine.

Sabrina Spencer was also 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored for the Lady Cardinals.

Kaitlyn Morelli paced Brockway going 2-for-3 with a run scored. She singled, stole two bases and scored on a throwing error by catcher Jordy Frank in the first inning for the Lady Rovers lone run.

Kayla Dowdall took the loss allowing seven runs, three earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out two.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 8, KANE 4

ST. MARYS, Pa. – In the consolation game of the Elk County Tournament, Maggie Dinsmore went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs to lift Elk County Catholic to an 8-4 win in St. Marys after the game was moved from Johnsonburg.

Josie Smith went deep for the Lady Crusaders and was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. while Sady VanAlstine scored three times and was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. Jenna Weisner chipped in a triple and a walk going 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Marcie Stanish had a pair of RBIs for Kane while going 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Sadie Tunall was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Smith picked up the complete-game win going seven innings allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out five.

Ella Marconi suffered the loss going six innings allowing eight runs, five earned, on six hits and seven walks while striking out two.

BALD EAGLE AREA 4, CLEARFIELD 2

WINGATE, Pa. – Winning pitcher Zoey Surovec had a pair of RBIs, and Megan Kresovich scored twice to help Bald Eagle Area to a 4-2 win over visiting Clearfield.

Surovec was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and also allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out four in seven innings of work.

Kresovich was 1-for-2 with a triple, and Brooke Woodward added a hit and an RBI for the Eagles.

Abby Fedder was 2-for-4 for Clearfield, while Aspen Bishop was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Makayla Ross also had a double and a run scored, while Brooke Cline had a single and an RBI.

Fedder took the loss going six innings allowing four runs, all earned, on six hits and seven walks while striking out five.
