CLARION, Pa. – Tyler Pollock scored a pair of goals, and David Olszak set the school record for shutouts in a season to lift Karns City to a 5-0 win over DuBois Central Catholic in the District 9 Class A boys’ soccer championship game Thursday night at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium.
Pollock scored goals three and four, both in the second half, for the Gremlins, who led 2-0 at halftime thanks to an own goal by DCC that was credited to Conrad Snyer and a Spenser Myers tally.
Pollock’s first goal of the game came early in the second half, and it proved to be way too much for the Cardinals, who couldn’t solve Olszak. It was the 14th shutouts of the season for the Karns City senior keeper, and it helped the Gremlins (18-2-1) avenge one of their two losses on the year.
Austin Haid added the final goal off the bench for Karns City, his first career tally.
The Gremlins, who won the third D9 title in school history, will face WPIAL third-place finisher Vincentian Academy in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium.
