BOYS

RIDGWAY 59, COUDERSPORT 57

RIDGWAY, Pa. – In a classic matchup between the top two teams in District 9, Ridgway grabbed a late lead and held off Coudersport for a 59-57 win at Ridgway.

Down 55-54 with a minute to play, Andy Breier got the roll on a shot to give the Elkers a 56-55 lead.

Then, after the teams traded turnovers, Daunte Allegretto found Josh Thorwart with a fast-break basket to give the Elkers a 58-55 lead.

But with 11.6 seconds left, Coudersport got a basket and a chance to tie the game, but the free throw was missed.

Johnny Mitchell then hit one of two charity shots for Ridgway to make it 59-57.

Coudersport had a chance to win the game at the horn but a 3-pointer was off the mark.

It was a game of runs with Ridgway dominating the first and third quarters and Coudersport the second quarter.

The Elkers led 12-4 at the end of eight minutes only to see the Falcons rally to take a 29-23 halftime lead behind 11 second-quarter points from Owen Chambers, who finished with a game-high 17 while hitting five 3-pointers.

Ridgway, though, started the second half on a 13-4 run and built the lead to seven, 42-35, after three.

Coudersport wasn’t finished and ended up taking the lead back, 55-54, on a Jared Green layup with 1:24 to go.

Breier led Ridgway with 16 points, Allegretto added 15 while hitting five 3-pointers, while Neil MacDonald had 11, Johnny Mitchell eight and Thorwart seven. Seven of Mitchell’s eight came after halftime while also seven of Thorwart’s points came in the second half.

Green chipped in 16 for Coudersport with Hayden Keck coming off the bench to score 11. Dillion Keglovits added six.

SLIPPERY ROCK 54, MONITEAU 36

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Nick Wherthey scored a game-high 15 points to lead Slippery Rock to a 54-36 road win over Moniteau.

Logan Croll added 11 points for the Rockets.

Ethan McDeavitt and Jared Lominski both scored 11 points to lead Moniteau.

ST. MARYS 62, WARREN 59

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Jared Groll scored 13 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to help St. Marys rally past visiting Warren, 62-59.

The Dutch trailed 49-45 going to the final eight minutes but Groll hit five shots, including a pair of 3-pointers, and went 1 of 2 from the line to spark the comeback.

Nathan Schneider also scored 25 points for St. Marys with most of his damage coming in the first quarter when he lit up the Dragons for 15 points while helping St. Marys take a 21-14 lead after a quarter.

Warren cut the lead to four, 35-31, at halftime and then outscored the Dutch 18-10 in the third quarter behind eight points from Caleb Ei, who led the Dragons with 20 points.

Aidan Morrison added 13 tallies for Warren with Griffin Suppa chipping in 12.

AUSTIN 69, PORT ALLEGANY 46

AUSTIN, Pa. – Dempsey Glover and Blake Burgett helped Austin to a 69-46 home North Tier League win over Port Allegany.

Dempsey Glover had 17 points and eight rebound with Burgett adding 13 points, nine assists and five boards. Mason Valenti chipped in 12 points for the Panthers with Joseph Glover and Garrett Rees each scoring eight points and Jackson Glover netting five points while dishing out six assists.

David Talkington paced Port Allegany with 23 points with Howie Stuckey adding 13.

GIRLS

SLIPPERY ROCK 67, MONITEAU 52

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Emma McDermott scored a game-high 20 points to lead visiting Slippery Rock to a 67-52 win over Moniteau.

Hallie Raabe added 17 points for the Rockets with Maryann Ackermann and Anna Kadlubek each scoring 13 points.

Emma Bair paced Moniteau with 19 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots. Andie Arblaster added 12 points and Izzy Bair 11 points and eight rebounds.

ARMSTRONG 60, ST. MARYS 19

KITTANNING, Pa. – Behind 22 points from Madi Lorigan Armstrong rolled past visiting St. Marys, 60-19.

Kenzie Lasher added 13 points for the River Hawks with Loryn Bowser contributing 10.

Bekka Bauer and Abigail Adamski both scored four points to lead St. Marys.

NORTH EAST 46, BRADFORD 41

NORTH EAST, Pa. – Kaylan Mayes scored eight of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter to help North East rally past visiting Bradford, 46-41.

The Grape Pickers trailed 34-33 going to the fourth quarter before rallying for the win.

Erica Marshall paced Bradford with 13 points.

GALETON 56, BUCKTAIL 35

GALETON, Pa. – Thanks in part to 17 points from Katie Pagano Galeton knocked off visiting Bucktail, 56-35.

Makaya Shadle added 14 points for the Lady Tigers with Cara Parsell scoring eight.
