PHILADELPHIA – Moniteau graduate Maura Kimmel has twice broken the Penn school record in the discus and also set the school mark in the shot put since the start of the outdoor season.

A sophomore, Kimmel threw 50.80 meters to win the discus at the March 24 Penn Challenge to break her own school mark while also tossing the discus 15.25 meters to also win that event.
She then topped her own discus record again a week later (March 30) at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina with a throw of 53.83 meters, the third-best throw in Ivy League history.
DISTRICT 9 ATHLETES GET UNDERWAY IN MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
With the start of the minor league baseball season Thursday, some District 9 alums got their seasons underway.
In the Class A Midwest League, Johnsonburg graduate Cole Peterson was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base for West Michigan of the Tigers’ organization in a 6-2 win over South Bend.
Also, Ridgway graduate Josh Mitchell pitched for the Lexington Legends in the Class 1A South Atlantic League going two scoreless innings allowing three hits while striking out one in a 3-2 win over Charleston (S.C.). The Legends are a Royals affiliate.
Clarion graduate Jon Kemmer also got his season started for the Class Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies. As this was being written, Kemmer was 0-for-2 through four innings in a game against Reno. The Grizzlies are an Astros affiliate.
Cranberry grad Dylan Cyphert was assigned to extended spring training with the Miami Marlins organization.
