VOLLEYBALL
CLARION 3, REDBANK 1
CLARION, Pa. – Korrin Burns and Maddie Schill combined for 20 kills as Clarion defeated visiting Redbank 3-1 (20-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-19).
Burns and Schill each had 10 kills to lead the Lady Cats, who got off to a slow start before kicking in into gear in the second set.
Schill talked about the victory.
KK Girvan led the Lady Cats defense with 16 digs. Dorothy Kalinowski and Hailey Sintobin each had six kills with Sintobin adding five digs and six blocks. Along with 10 kills, Schill also had 10 digs and a block.
Josie Rupp paced the visiting Lady Bulldogs with 8 kills and 2 aces. Taylor King had six kills and two blocks and Lauren Smith chipped in with three blocks.
After the first set, Clarion cruised in the second set scoring the first seven points of the set and easily taken home the victory.
But the Lady Cats found themselves down 9-3 in the third set before rallying for the 25-17 win and then put the match away in the fourth set.
KEYSTONE 3, KARNS CITY 2
KNOX, Pa. – Thirteen Alyssa Dunlap kills helped Keystone hold off visiting Karns City, 3-2 (26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12).
Mandy Wingard added 40 digs and three aces for the Lady Panthers with McKenna Kay running the offense with 17 set assists to go with three aces. Makenzie Hovis had 11 digs, nine kills and an ace.
Rayna Miller had six kills to lead Karns City with Emily Huff and Emma Clark each adding five kills and Cassidy Nolan three kills. Alyssa Stitt had four aces.
CRANBERRY 3, UNION 0
SENECA, Pa. – Using a balanced offensive attack that was run through setter Emily Duncan, Cranberry rolled past visiting Union, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-12).
Duncan ran the offense with 34 set assists while adding two kills and three digs.
The kills were spread out for the Berries with Abby Hanna leading the way with six. Malliah Schreck, Maddie Cornelius and Ava Ferringer each had five kills. Schreck also added nine digs and a block with Cornelius chipping in eight digs.
Morgan Cumberland had 10 set assists for Union with Bryn Davis recording four kills and Vanessa Reddick three aces.
SMETHPORT 3, NORTHERN POTTER 2
ULYSSES, Pa. – Alexis Shall had 10 kills, three blocks and three aces to help visiting Smethport to a 3-2 (28-26, 25-15, 23-25, 12-25, 15-6) win over Northern Potter.
MyKayla Deyarmin chipped in 12 assists, five aces, four digs and four kills for the Lady Hubbers with Emily Gustafson adding three kills, four digs, two blocks and two aces.
Mirissa Bliss had 17 set assists, six aces and five digs for Northern Potter with Courtney Martin adding 10 kills, five digs, four set assists and two aces and Megan Hyde five kills and three aces.
DUBOIS 3, CURWENSVILLE 0
CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Kelli Hoffer had 11 kills and nine digs to lead DuBois to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-18) road win over Curwensville.
Sydney Kaschalk chipped in eight kills with Cayla Donahue adding six kills for the Lady Beavers, who had the offense run by Cate Gregory’s 35 set assists. Abby Lecker paced defense with 11 digs, and Kaylee Sadowski had seven aces.
Liz Mathews led Curwensville with five kills, two blocks and an ace. Emma Caldwell chipped in nine set assists and three aces and Ariel Zattoni had five digs.
MONITEAU 3, NORTH CLARION 0
FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Logan Barnhart had 10 set assists to help visiting Moniteau to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-20) win over North Clarion.
Abby Regal added six kills for the Lady Warriors.
Kiara Stitt led North Clarion with four digs and tow dills
CLARION-LIMESTONE 3, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0
STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Behind five kills from Maddy Craig Clarion-Limestone swept visiting Venango Catholic, 3-0 (25-6, 25-18, 25-18).
Rachel Greeley added three kills and Emma Smith two for the Lady Lions with Greeley chipping in a team-best four blocks and a dig.
Keara Henry had nine set assists and four aces with Bailey Smith adding three aces and Sarah Acree two blocks.
Emma Ekis had three kills for Venango Catholic.
BROOKVILLE 3, BROCKWAY 0
BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Brookville started the 2018 season off on a winning note with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-17) win over visiting Brockway.
Morgan Johnson paced the Lady Raiders with five kills and three aces with Lexis Hatzinikolas adding four kills and three blocks. Lauren Herget also had three kills and Cheyanne Gotwald had two kills. Tessa Shaffer served well with three aces.
Abby Alford paced Brockway with eight digs and four kills.
JOHNSONBURG 3, SHEFFIELD 0
JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Lindsey Kocjancic and Amanda Williams combined for 15 kills to help Johnsonburg to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-13) win over visiting Sheffield.
Kocjancic led the Ramettes with eight kills and six aces with Williams adding seven kills. Jenna Morgan chipped in with four kills.
Emily Leichtenberger had four kills for Sheffield with Callen Copley adding seven assists and four aces.
BRADFORD 3, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 1
ST. MARYS, Pa. – Despite 17 kills from Taylor Newton and four aces from Ellie Fledderman, Elk County Catholic dropped a 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-18, 25-15) decision to visiting Bradford.

PORT ALLEGANY 3, COUDERSPORT 2
PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – In a back-and-forth match, Port Allegany outlasted visiting Coudersport, 3-2.
The first two sets both went past regulation with Coudersport winning the first one, 27-25, before the Lady Gators overcame a six-point deficit in the second one to win 26-24. Port Allegany then went up 2-1 with a 25-18 third-set victory before Coudersport staved off elimination with a 25-18 fourth-set win. Port Allegany, though, closed out the victory with a 15-6 fifth-set advantage.
Jenna Sprankle ran the Lady Gators attack with 23 assists. Kierra Keck had eight kills and three blocks with Kayla Pesock adding eight kills.
Shae Black led Coudersport with 14 kills and seven blocks. Makayla Kavounas had 18 set assists.
GALETON 3, OTTO-ELDRED 2
GALETON, Pa. – Using a balanced effort, Galeton won an epic 3-2 (25-20, 25-12, 23-25, 22-25, 16-14) decision from visiting Otto-Eldred.
Marika Lechler led the Lady Tigers with five kills, 12 digs and two aces with Brielle Kalacinski adding four kills, three blocks, three assists, nine digs and two aces and Kelsey Bennett four kills and a dig.
Erin Cimino (3 kills, 3 digs) and Maddie Sauley (3 kills, 2 assists, 2 digs, 3 aces) also played key roles as did Kate Kulish (8 assists, 3 digs, 2 aces), Cara Parsell (9 digs), Katie Pagano (15 digs, 2 kills, 2 assists, 2 aces) and Makenna Shuemaker (6 assists, 3 digs, 2 kills, 2 aces) .
Veronica Benini paced Otto-Eldred with 12 kills. Reilly Raught added seven kills and three aces.
BOYS’ SOCCER
PORT ALLEGANY 7, RIDGWAY 1
RIDGWAY, Pa. – Behind Noah Costa’s hat trick visiting Port Allegany downed Ridgway, 7-1.
Costa added an assist in the win, while Shawn McNeil scored twice while also picking up a helper and Howie Stuckey had a goal and two assists. AJ Edgell also scored for the Gators.
Brandon Peterson got the win in net with seven saves.
BROCKWAY 13, ST. MARYS 4
ST. MARYS, Pa. – It was a goal-a-palooza for Brockway, as the Rovers had seven different players score goals in a 13-4 win over St. Marys.
Hunter Allenbaugh led the Rovers with four goals, while Zane Puhala also had the hat trick with three tallies. Marcus Bennett added a pair of goals, his first two varsity tallies, while Santino Inzana, Clayton Heckman, Elijah Fremer and Jared Marchiori also scored – it was Marchiori’s first varsity tally as well.
Marcus Bennett added three assists with Puhala and Allenbaugh each picking up two helpers. Linkin Nichols, Inzana, Heckman, Nathan Bennett and Ryan Lin all had helpers as well.
Garet Park got the win for Brockway.
Vinicius Nunes had a hat trick for St. Marys with CJ McGowan also scoring.
BROOKVILLE 7, CLARION-LIMESTONE 1
BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Jace Miner netted a hat trick to lead Brookville to a 7-1 win over visiting Clarion-Limestone.
Jacob Cable added a pair of tallies for the Raiders with Garner McMaster and Logan Oakes also scoring.
Beau Verdill had C-L’s lone tally.
KEYSTONE 6, REDBANK VALLEY 5
KNOX, Pa. – Despite a Nick Smith hat trick visiting Redbank Valley fell 6-5 at Keystone.
Declan Fricko added a pair of goals for the Bulldogs.
Keystone goal scorers weren’t reported.
KARNS CITY 6, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0
KARNS CITY, Pa. – Austin Fahlor had two goals and an assist and Jake Weckerly made five saves to record a shutout, as Karns City topped visiting Elk County Catholic, 6-0.
Dakota King added a goal and an assist for the Gremlins with Nate Rondinelli, Kaden Scherer and Ryan Truax also scoring for KC.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
CURWENSVILLE 2, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 1
CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Madison Weber scored a pair of first-half goals 16 minutes apart to help Curwensville overcome an early deficit and beat visiting Elk County Catholic, 2-1.
Weber’s goal in the 21st minute tied the game at one after ECC had taken a 1-0 lead late in the 11th minute on a Maddie Kear tally off a Sady VanAlstine feed.
Weber then gave the Lady Tide the 2-1 lead with a goal in the 37th minute.
Maura Bunnell made that lead stand up making 13 saves.
Kara VanEerden was the losing keeper despite making 10 stops.
HUNTINGDON 3, CLEARFIELD 0
HYDE, Pa. – Three different Huntingdon players scored to help the Lady Bearcats to a 3-0 win at Clearfield in Mountain League play.
Amanda Gwenn gave Huntingdon a 1-0 halftime lead before Maddie DeForest and Sydney Sellers each scored in the second half.
Mallory Woodward made three saves in getting the shutout win.
Hayley Moore made five saves for Clearfield.
BROCKWAY 5, CLARION 0
BROCKWAY, Pa. – Chanell Britten hat trick helped Brockway to a 5-0 win over visiting Clarion.
Morrigan Decker added a pair of goals and two assists for the Lady Rovers with Mogan Lindemuth, Danielle Wood and Callie Barber all picking up helpers as well.
Mackenzie Overbeck made 10 saves for the shutout.
ST. MARYS 3, PORT ALLEGANY 1
PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Kira Pesce scored twice to help visiting St. Marys to a 3-1 win over Port Allegany.
Pesce two goals came after an opening tally by Lauren Eckert put the Lady Dutch up 1-0 and expanded the lead to 3-0 by halftime.
Cailey Barnett netted a second-half goal for Port Allegany’s lone score.
REDBANK VALLEY 6, KEYSTONE 1
KNOX, Pa. – Brooke Eberle scored a hat trick to pace visiting Redbank Valley to a 6-1 win over Keystone.
Carley Shick added a pair of goals for the Lady Bulldogs while Quinn Fricko scored once.
Keystone’s goal scorer was not reported.
