The Commonwealth Department of Labor and Industry has issued an occupancy permit for all areas of the building except the weight room addition, which is in the final stages of completion. The Department of Health conducted a preliminary inspection of the pool facility, and final approval is expected as soon as the formal L&I occupancy permit is in hand.
As with all major construction projects, after occupancy is granted, there is a period of time in which final adjustments are made, furnishings are moved in, and occupants set up operations and familiarize themselves with their new surroundings. This will occur during the next month. It is anticipated that by late November the facility will be fully operational and open to the general public.
“The entire university community is excited as this long-anticipated project nears completion,” said President Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson. “As athletics events are scheduled, we invite the public to join in that excitement and explore this state-of-the-art gymnasium and natatorium while cheering for our Golden Eagles.”
“The renovation of Tippin and the competitive opportunities it provides is another way that Clarion University supports our student-athletes and encourages their development not only in their sport, but in their educational endeavors and personal growth,” said Dr. Wendy Snodgrass, athletic director. “We thank the university community and the general public for their patience as this project reaches completion.”
The university is appreciative of the efforts of those who have made this project a success, including: the Department of General Services, general contractor Mascaro, the prime contractors, DLA design firm, university consultant Clare Heidler, and a number of university employees.
A fall open house for students and employees and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony this spring are being planned.
