DUBOIS, Pa. – Brandon Walker scored when Michael Misiewicz reached on an error in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift DuBois Central Catholic to 6-5 win over Johnsonburg.
The Cardinals loaded the bases with nobody out on singles by Thomas Grecco and Walker and a walk to Noah Bloom. Then Nick Szczerba grounded to shortstop with Grecco being tossed out at the plate. Misiewicz then hit a grounder to second that was misplayed by Sallack allowing Walker to score the winning run.
DCC had tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out home run to left by Jake Miknis.
Johnsonburg had taken a 5-4 load in the top of the seventh on a Johnny Mitchell double. The Rams then looked poised to take a bigger lead when the next batter walked with no outs. But DCC then turned a triple play when a liner to shortstop Szczerba turned into a 6-4-3 triple play with Szczerba going to Misiewicz for the out at second and then on to Jake Miknis at first.
“A beautiful thing,” DCC head coach Andy Sayers said.
Miknis had a huge day at the plate going 3-for-4 with the home run and two runs scored.
Also for DCC, Grecco was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Walker was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Jack Frank added a double and a run scored.
For Johnsonburg, Mitchell was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Josh Raubenstrauch was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Dave Sallack was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Turner Amacher was also 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Grecco picked up the win in relief going four innings and allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out three. He was aided by outstanding defense by Misiewicz, according to Sayers.
Szczerba started and went six innings allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out two.
Ben Ames too the loss. He pitched 1 ⅓ innings allowing the one run on two hits and two walks.
Justin Kasmerski started and went 5 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits and four walks. Neil MacDonald relieved and went 2 ⅔ innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out one.
