Moving on: Lady Crusaders headed to states

BROCKWAY — Knocking off DuBois Central Catholic for the second time in seven days, the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders advanced to next week’s semifinals with a 48-26 win Friday night.

The 25-0 Lady Crusaders also clinched their first state playoff berth since placing third in 2012. DuBois Central Catholic finished 14-10 with its second straight loss to ECC, which beat it in last week’s AML Championship game, 49-30.

Julia Sweeney and Erin Petrosky each scored 14 points to lead the Lady Crusaders, who led 26-12 at halftime. Reilly Herzing finished with 10 points.

Riley Assalone led the Lady Cardinals with nine points.

The top-seeded Lady Crusaders now face fifth seed Venango Catholic next week at a site and time to be determined.
