SOFTBALL

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 14, BROCKWAY 3, 6 INNINGS

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Riley Assalone and Tessa Sayers each had three hits to lead a 14-hit attack by DuBois Central Catholic in a 14-3, six-inning win at Brockway Wednesday.

Ashley Wruble pitched six strong innings for the Lady Cardinals giving up five hits and two walks while striking out two.

All three of Brockway’s runs came in the fourth inning.

Kayla Dowdall led the Lady Rovers with a pair of hits.

VENANGO CATHOLIC 5, CLARION-LIMESTONE 1

OIL CITY, Pa. – A four-run second innings helped Venango Catholic down visiting Clarion-Limestone, 4-1, Wednesday.

Sarah McCauley had a big two-run double for the Lady Vikings in the second, the only hit in the inning for Venango Catholic.

McCauley finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and run scored to lead VC.

Paige Aaron had C-L’s RBI in the first inning with a single that drove home Megan Schimp.

Oil City tied the game in the bottom of the first on a McCauley base hit then took the lead with the four-run second.

BRADFORD 10, BROOKVILLE 9

BRADFORD, Pa. – Mackenzie Smith’s base hit over the leftfielder’s head drove home Ashley Stolz from second base with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh, as Bradford knocked off visiting Brookville, 10-9, Wednesday.

The Lady Raiders had rallied from two down in the top of the seventh to knot the game at nine thanks in part to a leadoff home run by Carlie McManigle, which was then followed by a game-tying single by Caitlyn Hill.

Stolz, who had a pair of hits, scored four times for Bradford, while Smith was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

McManigle and Jordan MacWilliams each drove in three runs to lead Brookville, while Elaina Powell had a pair of RBIs including a sacrifice fly.

CLARION 11, KANE 1, 4 INNINGS

CLARION, Pa. – Clarion scored multiple runs in all four of its plate appearances to get an 11-1, four-inning win over visiting Kane Wednesday.

Anna Reed had a monster day for the Lady Cats going 4-for-4 with a double, six RBIs and three runs scored.

Keanna Over also had a four-hit day going 4-for-4 with a triple, four runs scored and two RBIs for Clarion, and Sadie Rudesyle also drove in two runs.

Freshman Ella Marconi had a pair of hits for Kane and also drove in a run. Rachel Morgan scored the run for the Lady Wolves.

Rudesyle got the win in the circle going four innings and allowing three hits and a walk while striking out four.

CURWENSVILLE 10, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 6

ST. MARYS, Pa. – An eight-run second inning fueled a 10-6 Curwensville road win at Elk County Catholic Wednesday.

The Lady Tide led 2-1 after on but blew the game open with the eight-run second.

Kaylee Harnett was 2-for-5 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Curwensville, while Emily Miller went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Teghan Jacobson was also 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Jenna Labant led ECC going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Maggie Dinsmore was also 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Rosina Nero had a double and an RBI and Emily Evers a triple and a run scored.

Rylee Young got the win for Curwensville, while Emily Wolf took the loss for ECC.

JOHNSONBURG 16, SHEFFIELD 1, 3 INNINGS

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Kylee Wall went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs to lead Johnsonburg to a 16-1, three-inning win over visiting Sheffield Wednesday.

Skylar Sherry added a 2-for-3 performance with three RBIs and a run scored, while Lindsey Kocjancic was 2-for-3 with a double two runs scored and two RBIs.

Also for the Ramettes, Jaylie Johnson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Ashton Watts was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and run a scored.

Sherry got the win striking out six in three innings of work.

REDBANK VALLEY 6, KEYSTONE 2

KNOX, Pa. – Kara Hicks drove home four runs to lead Redbank Valley to a 6-2 win at Keystone Wednesday.

Maycee Shumaker had two hits with a triple, while Kimberly Shick added two singles and an RBI.

Alyssa Burkett allowed five hits and two runs while walking two and striking out nine.  

BASEBALL

REDBANK VALLEY 13, KEYSTONE 0, 5 INNINGS

KNOX, Pa. – Devin Schimp, Grayson Harmon and Bryan Layton combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter, as visiting Redbank Valley shutout Keystone, 13-0, Wednesday.

Schimp went three innings, striking out four and walking one. Harmon threw a scoreless fourth and Layton struck out three while walking one.  

Connor Shoemaker (2-for-3, two runs scored and a stolen base), Layton (2-for-3, two RBIs) and Tanner Altobelli (2-for-3, 1 double, 1 run, 1 RBI) each had two hits to lead the Bulldog offense.  

BRADFORD 6, BROOKVILLE 1

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – A four-run seventh inning helped visiting Bradford break open a close game and get a 6-1 win at Brookville Wednesday.

The Owls led by just a run, 2-1, going to the final inning before erupting for the four runs thanks in part to a crucial Brookville error.

Connor Veceilio had a key two-run double in the seventh for Bradford.

Andrew Bacha and Adam Cary each had two hits to lead the Owls, while Isaac Gaylack added a pair of RBIs.

Logan Thrush was 3-for-4 with a run scored for Brookville, while Kyle Dunkle was 1-for-2 with an RBI.  

Bacha got the win going five innings and allowing one unearned run on four hits and a walk while striking out five. Danny Manion picked up the save.

Ben Reitz took the loss going 6 ⅔ innings and allowing six runs, two earned, on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 12, BROCKWAY 4

DUBOIS, Pa. – Thomas Grecco got the win for DuBois Central Catholic in a 12-4 win over visiting Brockway Wednesday.

The Cardinals used a balanced hitting attack to get the victory.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 17, VENANGO CATHOLIC 5, 6 INNINGS

OIL CITY, Pa. – Sam Leadbetter was 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs to lead visiting Clarion-Limestone to a 17-5, six-inning win over Venango Catholic Wednesday.

Riley Hummell scored four times for the Lions while going 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while Alex Acree drove in two and was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Brady Himes added a double and three RBIs while going 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Colby Himes was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Cole Grenci scored three runs as a courtesy runner for Taylor Smith, who was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored of his own.

Smith pitched three innings giving up three unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five. Acree went a scoreless inning to get the win striking out three, and Leadbetter finished off allowing a pair of runs while striking out three in two innings of work.

Ian Hidinger was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to pace Venango Catholic, while Josh Puleo was 1-for-4 with three runs scored.

ST. MARYS 13, ALTOONA 3, 5 INNINGS  

ST. MARYS, Pa. – After falling behind 3-0 after a ½ inning, St. Marys’ bats exploded for 11 runs over its first three at bats on its way to a 13-3, five-inning win over visiting Altoona Wednesday.

Jeff Wehler once again led the Dutch going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored. Michael Beimel also had a bid day at the plate going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Nate Beimel was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored, while Jared Groll and Hayden Tetis also drove home two runs each with Tetis going 2-for-3. Aaron Piccolo scored a pair of runs.

Nate Beimel went four innings giving up the three runs on two hits and four walks while striking out four. Groll pitched a scoreless inning of relief walking one and striking out two.

EISENHOWER 8, KANE 0

RUSSELL, Pa. – Connor Crowley had a double and Tanner Morehead a single, but visiting Kane fell, 8-0, at Eisenhower Wednesday.

CLEARFIELD 3, BELLEFONTE 0

CLEARFIELD, Pa. – Brandon Orsich threw a complete-game two-hit, one-walk shutout to lead Clearfield to a 3-0 win over visiting Bellefonte Wednesday.

It was the second complete-game win for the senior righty Orsich, who is headed to Pitt-Bradford next year. He struck out four while giving up a pair of singles – one on the third and on in the seventh.

Marcus Luzier staked the Bison to a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI double, and Jake Sorbera and Tommy Hazel added RBI singles in the fourth and fifth respectively.  

Kyler Mellott took the loss for Bellefonte going six innings and allowing the three runs, all earned, on six hits and three walks while striking out two. Darren Heeman and Logan Mathieu had the hits for the Red Raiders.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 13, CURWENSVILLE 3, 6 INNINGS

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Behind Dan Stauffer and Brad Dippold, visiting Elk County Catholic cruised to a 13-3, six-inning win at Curwensville Wednesday.

Stauffer was 2-for-5 with four RBIs, while Dippold was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and an RBI for the Crusaders, who also got a pair of RBIs from Jared Braun, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Gabe Kraus struck out seven in 3 ⅔ innings of work for ECC.

Austin Lansberry paced Curwensville going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

HOLLIDAYSBURG 8, DUBOIS 4

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. – A five-run first inning helped Hollidaysburg overcome an early 3-0 hole and get an 8-4 win over visiting DuBois Wednesday.

Nick Labrasca drove home a pair of runs and was 1-for-4 with a double for the Beavers, while Adam Bankovich was 2-for-4. Ryan Pasternak also had a double and an RBI for DuBois, and Tate Rutherford was 2-for-3 with a double.

Labrasca took the loss.
