Bishop Carroll Pulls Away Late from ECC Boys – Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Bishop Carroll pulled away late from Elk County Catholic to end the Crusaders season with a 57-47 win in the second round at Punxsutawney.

ECC trailed by just two, 46-44, following a Leo Gregory basket with 2:53 to play.

But with leading scorer Ryan Newton on the bench having fouled out with 3:20 to go the Huskies went on a game-ending 11-3 run to secure the victory.

Ben Eckenrode hit a key 3-pointer with 1:09 to play to push the lead to seven, 52-45.

The teams were tied at 22 at halftime before ECC took the lead in the third quarter only to watch Bishop Carroll rally to take a 34-32 lead after three quarters.

Tristen McDannell and Carson Ertter combined to score 40 of Bishop Carroll’s 57 points including all but two in the first half. McDannell led the Huskies with 22 points with Errter adding 18.

Newton paced ECC (22-7) with 17 points with Gregory and Alex Breindel each adding eight points.

Bishop Carroll (19-8), the D6 champion, plays Shade in the quarterfinals Friday at a site and time to be determined.
