Bradford, Clearfield to Meet for D9 4A Boys’ Title After Wins – Powered by Knox Country Farm Supply

BRADFORD, Pa. – On a night when neither team shot the ball particularly well, top-seeded Bradford shot just a tad bit better than fourth-seeded and visiting Punxsutawney to pull out a 37-30 win over the Chucks in the District 9 Class 4A semifinals.

Bradford was 16 of 43 from the field, including 2 of 13 from 3-point range, while Punxsutawney connected on just 11 of 41 shots but 6 of 17 triples.

The difference in the game was the second quarter when Bradford outscored the Chucks, 13-7, Adam Boyer scoring five points and Deondre Terwilliger four. That gave the Owls a 19-10 halftime lead.

Terwilliger led Bradford with a game-high 14 points to go with seven rebounds and two steals. Boyer added nine points and four assists, while Alec Kuzmeskas had a team-high 10 rebounds and Danny Manion added four steals and three assists.

Brandon Matthews led Punxsutawney with 12 points with Ethan Blose adding eight.

CLEARFIELD 60, ST. MARYS 57

HYDE, Pa. – Clearfield built an 11-point halftime lead and then held off St. Marys and Nathan Schneider to advance to the District 9 Class 4A title game for the second straight season with a 60-57 win over the visiting Dutch.

The Bison, who have won three straight D9 title – two in 3A and one in 4A – led 28-17 at halftime.

But St. Marys, behind Schneider, who scored 23 of his game-high 36 points in the second half, closed the gap in half after three quarters trailing 41-35 and then the Dutch watched Schneider go off for 14 fourth-quarter points. But Clearfield went 15 of 20 in the fourth quarter with Reese Wilson going 9 of 10 from the line in the quarter and 10 of 12 in the game.

Ryan Chew led Clearfield with 19 points with Wilson added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Cade Walker chipped in 11 points and five rebounds with Jon Gates adding eight tallies.

Clearfield started fast and led 18-12 after a quarter with six different Bison scoring led by five points from Gates. Schneider had nine of St. Marys’ 12 tallies.

The Bison contained Schneider in the second quarter limiting him to four points as they outscored the Dutch 10-5 with Chew hitting a 3-pointer and then adding a pair of free throws.

Clearfield will take on Bradford in the District 9 title game at a site, time and date to be announced.
