Brookville Baseball Captures D9 3A Title; Earns Right to Play for Sub-Region Crown

DuBOIS, Pa. — Taking one of two steps needed for a state playoff berth, Brookville routed Kane 17-2 in four innings to capture the District 9 Class 3A title at Showers Field.

Next up for the Raiders (11-8) is the District 5/9 Sub-Regional Championship game against D5 champion Bedford next Wednesday in Punxsutawney at a time to be announced. The winner of that game punches a ticket to the state playoffs that begin June 3.

The Raiders trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the third inning before scoring 10 runs. They added six more runs in the fourth with two outs and enacted the 15-Run Rule.

Brookville had 13 hits and worked three Kane pitchers for six walks. Seth Dunkle went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, three runs scored and five runs batted in. Jace Miner, Aaron Park and Tanner LaBenne each had two hits with LaBenne doubling twice and Park once.

On the mound, Park’s only mistake was surrendering a tape-measure two-out, two-run homer to Ty Stahli, clearing the high wall in left-center field, just to the right of the building beyond the left-field fence.

But that was it for the Wolves as Park struck out seven, walked one and hit a batter the rest of the way.

Dunkle then led off the bottom of the first, hitting a high-arcing fly ball that hit off the roof of the left-field building. In the Raiders’ 10-run third with eight coming after two outs and just one of them earned thanks to an infield error, they knocked out starter and losing pitcher Stahli and got two-run singles from Dunkle and Park. Cole LaBenne and Brady Caylor singled in runs. Tanner LaBenne capped the inning with his second double of the third, driving in two more runs.

In the fourth, Dunkle doubled in two runs and Hunter Geer, the 10th batter to come to the plate, ended the game with a two-out, two-run single.
