SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. – Coudersport’s Owen Chambers, Karns City’s Chase Beighley and Austin’s Rich Glover are the major All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com District 9 boys’ basketball award winners for the 2018 season.

Chambers, Coudersport’s junior sharpshooter, is the All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com Player of the Year, Beighley is the Rookie of the Year and Glover the Coach of the Year.
In addition to the major awards, first-, second- and third-team All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com All-District 9 teams were chosen.
Joining Chambers on the first team are teammate Jared Green, Clarion-Limestone’s Ian Callen, Elk County Catholic’s Ryan Newton, Ridgway’s Neil MacDonald and St. Marys’ Nathan Schneider.
On the second team are Cameron County’s Adam Shaffer, Clarion’s Cam Craig, DuBois Central Catholic’s Justin Miknis, Forest Area’s Seth Berlin, North Clarion’s Nathan Banner and Punxsutawney’s Brandon Matthews.
The third team consists of Bradford’s Tyler Gigliotti, Brockway’s Carter Adams, Curwensville’s Josh Terry, Port Allegany’s Howie Stuckey, Ridgway’s Daunte Allegretto and Union’s Lucas Bowser.
All award winners and all-district performers receive either a plaque or a certificate courtesy of All American Awards & Engraving in Shippenville.
This is the 19th year of the postseason District 9 awards and the 18th they have been housed at D9Sports.com (the first year, 2000, the awards were awarded by the Tri-County Sunday out of DuBois). It marks the 10th consecutive year All American Awards & Engraving has been the title sponsor of the awards.
The 2012 Clarion Area Chamber of Business and Industry Business of the Year in the Economic Development Division, All American Awards & Engraving is located on Route 322 in Shippenville.

NOTES – In order to be eligible for the award or the all-district team, a player must participate in at least 70 percent of his team’s games. In order to be eligible for Rookie of the Year, a Player must be either a freshman or a sophomore who saw limited or no time as a freshman.

Chambers led the Falcons to their second straight District 9 Class 2A title and a 1-1 record in the PIAA playoffs by averaging 24.9 points per game, which was second in District 9, while adding 5.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Despite nearly half of his 456 shots (216) being 3-point attempts, he still shot 52.6 percent from the field including 60.8 percent from inside the arc and 43.5 percent (94 of 216) from beyond the arc. He also shot 90.7 percent (97 of 107) from the free-throw line.
He scored 25 or more points an amazing 15 times while topping 30 points six times scoring 35 or more twice.
In five postseason games, his average actually rose to 25.6 points per game.
With Chambers’ help, Coudersport finished the year 23-4.
Chambers will enter his senior season with 1,439 career points.
ALL AMERICAN AWARDS & ENGRAVING ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Chase Beighley, Freshman, Karns City

Beighley was the leading scorer for the District 9 Class 3A champion Gremlins helping lead Karns City to a second straight title.
He averaged 13.2 ppg, including 14.5 ppg during the regular season, and scored 15 or more points 10 times including topping 20 points on four different occasions.
Beighley netted a season-best 28 points vs. Redbank Valley and helped Karns City to the KSAC South title and a KSAC runner-up finish. The Gremlins went 17-8 on the season.
A scoring point guard, Beighley added a team-leading 3.9 assists and 2.5 steals per game while hitting 48 3-pointers.

The turnaround Austin experienced this year is hard to put into words.
The Panthers finished the season 13-10 after finishing 2-20 in 2017.
That turnaround, in itself, would be worthy of praise. But when put into context of where the Austin program had been for over a decade it truly was an amazing feat.
The Panthers hadn’t had a winning season nor been to the District 9 playoffs since 2004 and had won a combined 12 games (12-139) from 2011 to 2017 while going 19-271 since 2005 until this turnaround season.
And it shouldn’t be a one-shot deal, as Austin returns every significant contributor from this year’s team next season losing just one senior, foreign exchange student Esteban Coronel.
