After a 2-2 tie early on, C-L (5-10) would finish the quarter on a 17-1 run for a 19-3 lead after one quarter.
Hannah Beggs scored all nine of her points in the quarter while Julianna Schwabenbauer added six of her 12 total points in the opening frame.
“We got out on them early and got into a lead,” said C-L head coach Gus Simpson. “They didn’t shoot the ball well early, but defensively we played pretty well. We made a couple layups and a few easy buckets and then they were playing from behind the rest of the way.”

Union cut the deficit to 14 at 27-13 by halftime with a 10-8 scoring edge.
“Union is a scrappy team and coach Meeker always has his teams ready to go,” said Simpson. “They go out and fight until the end and that’s all you can ask for as a coach.”
C-L was able to put the game out of reach with a 13-5 third quarter advantage in taking a 40-18 lead after three.
The Lions closed out the game with a 9-6 fourth quarter edge to set the final score.
Schwabenbauer collected a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds to pace C-L. Beggs, who was in foul trouble for much of the game, finished with nine points while pulling down 11 rebounds. Kalyssa Ferguson also scored nine points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Raegan Love scored six points with six boards, and Audrey Aaron chipped in with five points. Sam Simpson collected five steals.
“After our last few games we stressed our rebounding,” said Gus Simpson. “I think if we would have rebounded last night like tonight, I think we could have had a little bigger gap in the final score. The girls executed and once again I’m proud of the girls as tonight was a total team win. Everybody did their part when called upon.”
Maddy Dehart collected a double-double for Union with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kya Wetzel added six points.
