C-L (17-6) led by four, 17-13, at halftime before outscoring Karns City, who beat the Lions two days ago in Karns City, 16-4 in the third quarter to open up the game.

Deas played a key role in the third-quarter run scoring the first five points of the quarter for the Lions and finishing the frame with eight points and an assist. Hayden Callen also added four points with Christian Smith hitting a 3-pointer in the quarter as well.

Eight of C-L’s 16 points in the third quarter came off Karns City turnovers, a problem that plagued the Gremlins (16-7), who were making their first appearance in the KSAC Championship game compared to the sixth for C-L and the Lions fifth straight.

Karns City turned the ball over 22 times in the game with C-L scoring 21 points off those miscues.

The Gremlins also didn’t shoot the ball well going 12 of 46 from the field (26.1 percent) and 4 of 20 from 3-point range. Karns City tried to make up for the shooting woes by hitting the glass hard and scored 21 second-chance points thanks to 18 offensive rebounds. The Gremlins outrebounded the Lions 37-21.

Hayden Callen added 13 points for C-L with Smith chipping in nine. Ian Callen had a quiet night scoring with just four points but he had a team-best seven rebounds to go with five steals – C-L had 16 steals as a team – three assists and two blocked shots.

Austin Fahlor paced Karns City with 13 points and five rebounds. Jacob Friel had six points, eight rebounds and four steals and Nathan Waltman added six points and seven rebounds.
