RIDGWAY 63, SMETHPORT 12

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Jeremy Breier netted his 1,000th career point, as Ridgway rolled past Smethport 63-12 at Smethport Friday night.

Breier entered the night needing nine points to reach the magic number and hit the milestone in the first quarter helping Ridgway to a 20-3 lead at the end of the quarter.

Breier finished the night with 15 points and 1,006 for his career.

Andy Breier added nine points, Neal MacDonald seven and Aaron Shilk six for the Elkers.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 69, NORTHERN POTTER 39

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Despite nine points from Frank Gardner and seven from Travis Morgan, Northern Potter dropped a 69-39 decision to Cowanesque Valley Friday night in the opening round of the Cowanesque Valley Tip-off Tournament.

UNION 54, BROOKVILLE 52

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Sutton Varner’s basket off a Cole Morris assist with 1.5 seconds left lifted Union to a 54-52 win over Brookville in the opening round of the Brookville Tip-off Tournament Friday night.

Lucas Bowser led the Golden Knights with 19 points, 13 in the first quarter, and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds while Morris added 16.

Kurt Schindler paced Brookville with 12 points ,and Jordan Tosh had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 72, BROCKWAY 58

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Dan Callen had 23 points and eight rebound, as Clarion-Limestone began its defense of the District 9 Class A title with a 72-58 win over Brockway Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Brookville Tip-off Tournament.

Christian Smith added 13 points, his older brother, Taylor, had 10, and Noah Rankin 13 for the Lions.

Jared Rogos paced Brockway with 11 tallies.  

MERCER 53, MONITEAU 28

MERCER, Pa. – JJ Waid had 10 points for Moniteau, but Mercer took care of business beating the visiting Warriors  53-28 at the Mercer Shootout Friday night.

Derek Boben added five points for Moniteau.

DUBOIS 49, KEYSTONE 35

KNOX, Pa. – Dante Dawson had 15 points and 10 rebounds, as visiting DuBois outpaced Keystone 49-35 in the opening round of the Keystone Tip-off Tournament Friday night.

Nick LaBrasca added 10 points and nine boards for the Beavers, while Zach Sloan had 11 tallies.

“After  shaky start, we gained our composure and held Keystone to one point in the second quarter,” DuBois head coach Scott Creighton said. “I’m very excited for our players to get the first win under their belts. They worked hard and earned this victory tonight. I’m proud of them.”

DuBois will face St. Marys in the title game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, while Keystone takes on Venango Catholic in the 6 p.m. consolation game.

PORTVILLE (NY) 56, PORT ALLEGANY 40

PORTVILLE, N.Y. – Brandon McCalsin and Tre Garzel each scored in double figures, but Port Allegany lost its season opener, 56-40, to Portville (NY) in the opening round of the Portville Tournament.

McCaslin had 14 points, while Garzel had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

OSWAYO VALLEY 49, BUCKTAIL 32

WESTFIELD, Pa. – Brandon Brabham’s 21 points, including 13 in the first quarter, helped Oswayo Valley to a 49-32 win over Bucktail in the opening round of the Cowanesque Valley Tournament Friday night.

Brabham hit five 3-pointers on the night for the Green Wave, who also got nine points from Ricardo Gross and seven from Theo Henry.

A-C VALLEY 60, TIDIOUTE CHARTER 29

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Austin Heeter had 16 points, and Joe Manculich recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds to lead A-C Valley to a 60-29 win over Tidioute Charter in the opening round of the Forest Area Tournament Friday night.

Kody Wolfe chipped in 10 points, all in the second half for the Falcons, while Brendan Price had eight points and five rebounds.

FOREST AREA 41, WARREN COUNTY CHRISTIAN 24

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – Behind Mike Paulsen’s 12 points and six steals, Forest Area moved into the championship game of its own tournament with a 41-24 win over Warren County Christian Friday night at East Forest High School.

JOHNSONBURG 49, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 44

DUBOIS, Pa. – Kevin Benson netted a team-high 15 points, as Johnsonburg toppled DuBois Central Catholic 49-44 in the opening round of the DCC Tip-off Tournament Friday.

Andrew Akers added 10 for the Rams.

Freshman Justin Miknis drained six 3-pointers, all in the second half, for a game-high 18 points for DCC. Christian LaParne added 16 tallies for the Cardinals.

ERIE CENTRAL TECH 66, REDBANK VALLEY 17

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Derrick Clark had 13 points and Shaquan Evans 10 to pace Erie Central Tech to a 66-17 win over Redbank Valley in the Meadville Tournament Friday night.

Sam Heeter led the Bulldogs with eight points while hitting a pair of 3-pointers.

Redbank will take on North Clarion in the consolation game Saturday.

EISENHOWER 77, AUSTIN 31

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Anderson Nicka scored 14 points but Austin fell to Eisenhower 77-31 in the Sheffield Sports Boosters Tip-Off Classic Friday night.

Thomas Warren led Eisenhower with 18 points, while Jaydon Hayes and Casey Vincent had 17 apiece for the Knights.

SHEFFIELD 55, YOUNGSVILLE 50

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Roger Dunham scored 18 points and Logan Connolly added 15 as Sheffield withstood a late Youngsville surge to earn a 55-50 win in the Sheffield Sports Boosters Tip-Off Classic.

Joey Chuzie, who scored a game-high 20 points for the Eagles, cut the deficit to 1 late on a 3-pointer, but Dunahm, Connolly and Austin Simmer all came up with clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the win for the Wolverines.
