CLARION, Pa. – With two weeks off since its last game, the DuBois boys’ basketball team has had time to get healthy and refocused for its PIAA sub-regional playoff game against Erie Central Teach at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Clarion High School.
After a fantastic start to the season that culminated in a 68-64 win at Punxsutawney Jan. 22 to move their record to 9-5, the Beavers fell on hard times losing seven of their final eight regular season games to finish at 10-12.
But none of that will mean anything if DuBois can pull the upset Erie Central Tech, the District 10 champion, who beat Erie McDowell, 49-47, Saturday.
The Falcons (13-10) have had a streaky season as well and enter the playoffs having won two in a row but just three of their last six games.
Leonard Johnson leads Central Tech averaging 13.3 ppg, while Derrick Clark also reached double figures at 13.1 ppg. Mauryon Bowers adds 9.87 ppg.
DuBois’ is paced by Zach Sloan’s 14.8 ppg with Nick LaBrasca adds 10.5 ppg, Johnny Oberlin 8.5 ppg and Dante Dawson 7.3 ppg.
The winner will move into the PIAA playoffs where it will face the fourth-place team out of the WPIAL. DuBois hasn’t been to the PIAA tournament since winning the last D9 Class AAAA title in 2000.
