BROCKWAY — Winning in walk-off style, the Elk County Lady Crusaders are moving on in the PIAA Class A softball playoffs.
Emily Evers tripled in the tying run and scored on Sophie Viglione’s single to lift the D9 champion Lady Crusaders to a 3-2 win in nine innings over West Branch Thursday afternoon.
That lands ECC (23-2) in Monday’s state semifinals against Cochranton at a site and time to be announced.
Each team scored a run in the first inning and the game went scoreless until the top of the ninth when West Branch grabbed a 2-1 lead, but the Lady Crusaders scored two runs with two outs to advance.
Abby Bauer was the winning pitcher, allowing seven hits while walking three and striking out three.
Bauer and Viglione each had two hits to lead the ECC offense.
