ECC Baseball Moves into PIAA Playoffs

DUBOIS, Pa. – Ryan Heary was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs as Elk County Catholic rolled into the PIAA playoffs with a 10-0, five-inning win over District 10 champion Jamestown in the District 9/10 Class 1A consolation game at DuBois’ Showers Field Friday night.

The Crusaders will play WPIAL champion Jeannette at Greater Latrobe in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs Monday.

ECC, which lost to coin toss to determine home-field advantage, scored three in the first, five in the third and two in the fourth to get the Mercy-Rule victory.

Frank Signer was also 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Crusaders, while Gabe Kraus doubled, walked, scored a run and drove one in, and Brad Dippold scored twice.

Alec Wehler and Kraus combined on the four-hit shutout.

Wehler got the win going three innings allowing three hits and a walk while striking out three. Kraus then went two innings allowing a hit while striking out four.

Losing pitcher Shane McLaughlin had one of the four hits for Jamestown.

McLaughlin lasted 2 2/3 innings allowing eight runs, five earned, on nine hits and a walk while striking out one.
