SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. – A pair of unbeaten teams, Elk County Catholic and Coudersport, sit atop the final D9Sports.com District 9 Boys’ Basketball Power Ratings for the 2017 season released Feb. 12.
With the playoffs just around the corner, Elk County Catholic (21-0) continued to lead the way at No. 1 after a 2-0 week that pushed the Crusaders regular-season win streak to 58 straight games. Coudersport (22-0), the only team to secure an unbeaten regular season this year to this point, is No. 2 after going 4-0 during the week including a win at Clarion (14-6), which comes in at No. 10.
Clearfield (21-1) is No. 3, Clarion-Limestone (17-4) is No. 4 and Ridgway (18-3) is No. 5.
Three new teams enter the Top 15 – which actually has 17 teams with a three-way tie for 15th – with St. Marys (13-9) back in at No. 12, DuBois (9-11) back in at No. 13 and Cameron County 13-7) in at No. 14.
Two new teams entered the Top 15 with Bradford (6-11), riding a three-game win streak, entering at No. 12 and Otto-Eldred (11-7), winners of four of five, in at a tie for No. 15 with North Clarion (10-8).
Otto-Eldred (12-9) drops out of the Top 15 after going 1-2 last week as does Brookville after a 0-2 week.
Power ratings are different from rankings in that a power rating the rating is based on current events. While previous performances and results are part of the consideration, they are not the end all be all of how a team is performing in a particular week whereas performance based on a team’s entire body of work usually encompasses rankings. Because the rankings/power ratings are not used to determine playoff positions or seeings in District 9, we have decided to go to a power rating system to better reflect how a team is currently performing.
