CLARION 54, NORTH CLARION 19

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Less than 24 hours after losing its two-year grip on the KSAC North, Clarion took its frustrations out on a young North Clarion team blowing out the homestanding She-Wolves 54-19 Saturday afternoon.

Clarion (11-8, 7-2 KSAC North), which dropped a 51-34 decision at Venango Catholic Friday night that gave the Vikings the KSAC North title, a title Clarion had held the previous two years, wasted little time depositing a North Clarion team which starts four underclassmen but has won 11 games this year.

The Lady Cats led 11-4 at the end of the first quarter and 25-9 at halftime.

Things didn’t get any better for North Clarion (11-9, 5-3) in the second half, as the She-Wolves didn’t make a basket in the third quarter scoring just two points while being outscored 29-10 after halftime.

Maci Thornton, who was held to a season-low six points Friday, led all scorers with 17 Saturday afternoon and added six steals, five in the third quarter, and four rebounds. Nicki Glenn chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds and was key to Clarion’s strong start hitting a pair of first-quarter 3-pointers and scoring eight of her points in the opening eight minutes.

Also for the Lady Cats, Anna Reed and Gloria Kroh each scored seven points while Kroh adding six boards.

North Clarion, which shot just 6 of 41 from the field, 7 of 17 from the free-throw line and turned the ball over 24 times, got seven points and 17 rebounds from Tori Obenrader. Abbie Schmader added six points. The She-Wolves were just 1 of 13 shooting in the second and third quarters combined scoring seven points, five from the charity stripe.

The teams will turn around and play again Monday at Clarion.
