Five District 9 Players Named All-State in Basketball

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Five District 9 basketball players – three girls and two boys – have been named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Teams.

Redbank Valley’s Brooke Hinderliter is a second-team Class AA girls’ selection, Karns City’s LeeAnn Gibson is a third-team Class AA girls’ choice, North Clarion’s Tori Obenrader is a second-team Class A girls’ member, Clearfield’s Will Myers is a third-team Class AAA boys’ selection and Kane’s Andrew Bucheit is a third-team Class AA boys’ choice.

Hinderliter is all-state for the fourth straight season and second-team for the second consecutive year after being third-team selection as a freshman and a sophomore. The Slippery Rock recruit averaged a District 9-leading 22.0 points per game to go with 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals, 2.1 assists and 1.3 blocks per contest. Only the third player in the history of the D9sports.com All American Awards & Engraving All-District awards to earn first-team All-District 9 four times, she finsihed her career with 1,997 points.

Gibson, the All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com District 9 Player of the Year, led Karns City to a third straight District 9 Class AA title by averaging a season double-double with 16.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Also a Slippery Rock recruit, she added 3.0 steals and 2.6 assists per contest and finished her career with 1,456 points.

Obenrader, only a sophomore, was a first-team All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com District 9 selection after averaging a massive double-double of 16.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per game while helping North Clarion to the PIAA playoffs for the first time in 30 years. She had 24 double-doubles in 27 games and added 4.4 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. She will enter her junior season with 754 career points.

Bucheit, the All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com District 9 Boys’ Player of the Year as a junior, was a key reason Kane went from three wins last year to 14 this year and the District 9 Class AA title. He averaged a season double-double with 19.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game while blocking 98 shots (4.5 bpg) and shooting 52.2 percent from the field. He scored 20 or more points in 13 of his 22 games and will enter his senior season with 706 career points.

Myers, a first-team All American Awards & Engraving D9Sports.com boys’ selection,was the key cog for perhaps the best boys’ team in the district. He averaged 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for Clearfield and shot 45 percent from the field including 40 percent from 3-point range while hitting 83 3-pointers. He scored 20 or more points 13 times in 26 games and will enter his senior season with 1,002 career tallies.
