KARNS CITY 38, WEST SHAMOKIN 35
RURAL VALLEY, Pa. – Behind 15 points from Emily Hegedus, Karns City survived a late West Shamokin charge to get a 38-35 road victory in non-conference action.
The Lady Gremlins used a 16-9 third-quarter advantage to built a 36-29 lead going to the fourth quarter but scored just two points in the final eight minutes.
Hegedus scored 10 of her points in the third quarter with LeeAnn Gibson adding the other six on her way to nine tallies. Makenzie Craig added eight points, all in the first half, for Karns City, which led 14-8 at the end of one quarter before watching the Lady Wolves tie the game at 20 at halftime.
HICKORY 49, MONITEAU 32
WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Jillian Greenburg hit five 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 18 points, as visiting and unbeaten Hickory beat Moniteau, 49-32, in non-conference action.
Neely Whitehead added 11 points for the Hornets, who led 26-22 at halftime after outscoring Moniteau 15-8 in the second quarter.
Then in the third quarter, Greenburg caught fire hitting four 3-pointers to help Hickory outscore the Lady Warriors 16-1 in the quarter.
Kristina DeMatteis led Moniteau with 11 points with Sara Hull adding nine points and nine rebounds and Cambrie Campbell eight points, all in the fourth quarter.
BOYS
NORTHERN POTTER 70, AUSTIN 60
AUSTIN, Pa. – Tucker Kosa and Frank Gardner combined to score 55 points to lead Northern Potter to a 70-60 road victory over Austin in North Tier League play.
Kosa netted 28 points with Gardner chipping in with 27.
NoPo need those tallies to offset a monster game from Austin’s Anderson Nicka who scored 34 points and grabbed 24 rebounds. Hunter Suckey added 10 points for the home team.
Nicka was strong throughout scoring eight points in the first quarter, all seven of Austin’s second-quarter points, 10 more in the third quarter and nine in the fourth.
Kosa, who hit eight 3-pointers in the contest, dumped in 19 first-half points while helping Northern Potter take a 31-28 halftime lead.
Gardner then led the way after halftime scoring 19 second-half points including 11 in the third quarter.
ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 77, CURWENSVILLE 42
ST. MARYS, Pa. – Twelves different Elk County Catholic Crusaders scored Saturday night in a 77-42 win over visiting Curwensville in AML action at Aaron Straub Gymnasium.
Nate DaCanal and Frank Singer each scored 11 points to lead the way for ECC, who also got eight points each from Jack Wolfe and Benji Hoffman and seven from Brad Dippold.
Quamone Newkirk led all scorers with 13 points for Curwensville. Jake Terry added nine points and RJ Olson seven for the Golden Tide.
