Jan. 22, 2020 Girls’ Hoops: DuBois Upsets Brookville; ECC Rolls Past Bradford

DUBOIS 51, BROOKVILLE 35

DUBOIS, Pa. – Abby Guiher, Olivia Johnson and Sage Weible combined to score 41 points, as DuBois turned around a 15-point loss earlier in the season to Brookville by beating the visiting Lady Raiders, 51-35, in D9 League action.

DuBois, which has won five straight, dropped a 59-44 decision at Brookville Dec. 27, but raced out to a 23-10 halftime lead Wednesday night on its way to the victory.

Guiher scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Lady Beavers with Johnson, who was 7 of 8 from the free-throw line, adding 15 points and Weible chipping in 10 points.

Lauren Hergert paced Brookville with 11 points with Morgan Johnson adding nine points and Madison Johnson seven.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 61, BRADFORD 48

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Taylor Newton and Brooke Bauer combined to score 47 points to lead Elk County Catholic past visiting Bradford, 61-48, in D9 League action.

Newton exploded for a game-high 27 points while adding 11 rebounds with Bauer scoring a season-best 20 points while hitting four 3-pointers.

Erica Marshall hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Bradford while Hannah Lary and Alanna Benson each chipped in nine points.

HUNTINGDON 37, CLEARFIELD 31

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Lexi Troup scored 12 points to help Huntingdon pick up a 37-31 home Mountain League win over Clearfield.

Allie Troup added nine points in the win for the Lady Bearcats.

Tesa Miller scored a game-high 18 points for Clearfield.

JAMESTOWN (PA) 32, VENANGO CATHOLIC 29

OIL CITY, Pa. – Visiting Jamestown (Pa.) overcame a four-point deficit heading to the fourth quarter to beat Venango Catholic, 32-29.

The Muskies trailed 22-18 going to the final eight minutes but got eight points from Jill McElhinny in the quarter to rally for the win.

McElhinny led Jamestown with 10 points with Jocelyn Johnson adding eight.

Hope Winger had a game-high 14 points for Venango Catholic while chipping in nine rebounds with Emmy Ekis adding six points, a team-best 10 rebounds and four steals.

ROCKY GROVE 34, SHEFFIELD 30

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – A strong second quarter helped visiting Rocky Grove knock off Sheffield, 34-30.

Trailing 8-6 after the first eight minutes, the Orioles got four points apiece from Kennedi Winslow and Rylee Reed to take a 17-11 halftime lead.

Sheffield fought back in the third quarter and cut the deficit to two, 21-19, but Amy Rudits and Winslow each scored four points and Stormi Taylor hit a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to allow Rocky Grove to pick up the victory.

Winslow scored a game-high 14 points to lead Rocky Grove with Rudits adding nine and Reed eight.

Alyssa Dunham paced Sheffield with 11 points with Allison Schmader scoring eight and Marissa Grubbs seven.
