CLARION, Pa. – For the third straight week, the Elk County Catholic boys and the Karns City girls remain in the top spots of the 2016 Laurel Eye Clinic D9Sports.com Power Ratings.
The Jan. 25 edition of the rankings also sees three new teams with the Karns City boys entering the ratings at No. 12 off their big win against Cranberry Friday night, the Bradford girls coming in at No. 14 and the Johnsonburg girls moving into No. 15 after a win over Elk County Catholic last week.
Also in the boys’ ratings, Clarion-Limestone stays at No. 2, Ridgway takes over No. 3 all by itself after being tied with Coudersport last week (the Falcons dropped to No. 6 following a loss to St. Marys), Clearfield jumps from No. 6 to No. 4 and St. Marys moves from No. 7 to No. 5.
In the girls’ ratings, North Clarion remains at No. 2, Keystone moves up from a tie at No. 4 to No. 3. Coudersport, which was tied with Keystone at No. 4, is still at No. 4 and Punxsutawney falls from No. 3 to No. 5.
Power ratings are different from rankings in that a power rating the rating is based on current events which means while previous performances and results are taken into consideration they are not the end all be all of how a team is performing in a particular week whereas a ranking is based on a team’s entire body of work. Because the rankings/power ratings are not used to determine playoff positions or seeings in District 9, we have decided to go to a power rating system to better reflect how a team is currently performing.
