CLARION, Pa. — Building an 18-point lead late in the third quarter, the Redbank Valley Lady Bulldogs held off a late Kane charge for a 42-31 win in the District 9 Class AA quarterfinals Wednesday night at Clarion Area High School.
With the win, the 17-6 Lady Bulldogs earn a semifinal date with Curwensville next week at a site and time to be announced.
Despite foul trouble, Brooke Hinderliter scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. With her on the bench late in the third quarter after picking up her fourth personal foul, the Lady Wolves rallied to within 35-25 by the 4:46 mark of the fourth quarter.
After Hinderliter got back in the game at that point, Kane did get within eight points at 39-31 with 1:37 left, but that’s as close as it would get the rest of the way. The Lady Wolves were hampered by a poor shooting night at 18.5 percent (10-of-54) from the field.
Kane’s Taylor Morgan scored 12 points, but made just 3 of 2 shots from the field.
Also for Redbank Valley, Kaelyn Gruver finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Megan Bain and Cassie Fink both finished with seven points. Becca Dougherty had four points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs never trailed and it was tied just twice early in the first quarter at 6-6 and 8-8 at the 1:12 mark. But from that point, the Lady Bulldogs closed the first half with a 14-2 run that put them up 22-10 at the break.
That turned out to be the big stretch of the game, although Redbank Valley added to the lead with a 13-9 third-quarter advantage. Its biggest margin was the 18-point lead at 35-17 following a Bain basket.
Trinity Clark finished with nine points and 11 rebounds for Kane, which finished the year at 12-12.
