CLARION — Limited to just four points in the second half, the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks lost their PIAA Class AAA state playoff opener to Chartiers Valley, 33-14, Saturday afternoon at Clarion University’s Tippin Gymnasium.
Punxsutawney (16-8) was actually tied with Chartiers Valley 10-10 at halftime, but the Lady Chucks went scoreless in the third quarter. Chartiers Valley outscored Punxsutawney, 12-0, in the third quarter and 11-4 in the fourth quarter to advance.
Next up for the WPIAL third seed Chartiers Valley (21-5) is WPIAL fifth seed Beaver, which beat District 10 champion Villa Maria.
Alexa Golden led Chartiers Valley with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Jensen Constantino led the Lady Chucks with six points.
