A year ago, C-L and North Clarion split their regular-season matchup – both won on the other team’s home court – but C-L ended up winning the North with a 9-1 record compared to an 8-2 mark for the Wolves.
With many of the key performers back from last season, these two teams are expected to battle it out again this year for the league crown.
In the early going, neither has disappointed.
North Clarion is off to a 4-0 start including 2-0 in conference play, while C-L is 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the KSAC North.
Both teams like to score the basketball with North Clarion averaging 75.5 points per game in the early going and C-L averaging 70.0 points per contest.
North Clarion is led by the big man in the middle, Kyle Mills. The 6-foot-8 over 250-pounds Mills is averaging 18.5 points per game and has one double-double on the year.
Tyler McCord-Wolbert is also averaging in double digits for the Wolves scoring 14.3 ppg with Logan Minich adding 9.5, Korey Mills 8.5 and Sam Minich 7.3.
C-L has a pair of players averaging at least 20 points per game led by Deion Deas’ 26.0 ppg. Hayden Callen adds 20.3 points per contest and is coming off a 35-point game in a win over Forest Area Friday.
Also for the Lions, who are playing currently without 1,000-point scorer Ian Callen who is scheduled to be back from a football injury sometime in mid-January, Curvin Goheen has had back-to-back double-doubles and is averaging 10.0 points per contest.
