SOFTBALL
CURWENSVILLE 4, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 0
CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Rylee Young tossed a two-hit shutout, as Curwensville tuned up for the District 9 Class A playoffs with a 4-0 win over fellow playoff participant and visiting Elk County Catholic.
Young didn’t walk a batter and struck out nine.
Hannah Dixon was 1-for-3 with ta triple, and RBI and a run scored for the Lady Tide, while Haley McGarry was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Kayley Harnett 1-for-4 with an RBI.
BASEBALL
CLEARFIELD 9, CURWENSVILLE 0
HYDE, Pa. – Zane Morgan and Brandon Orsich combined to drive in five runs, as Clearfield knocked off neighboring Curwensville, 9-0, at the Bison Sports Complex.
Morgan had two singles and three RBIs, while Orsich had a double and a single and two RBIs. Will Myers also added two hits and an RBI.
The Bison grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first on base hits by Morgan and Myers and then broke the game open with a five-run third that was highlighted by an Orsich two-run double. Morgan and Ty Bender also had RBI singles in the inning.
Noah Strickland paced the Curwensville offense with two hits.
Jake Sorbera improved to 4-3 on the mound going five innings allowing three hits and two walks while striking out two. Myers pitched two innings of relief allowing a hit and three walks while also striking out two.
Austin Lansberry suffered the loss going 2 ⅓ innings and allowing six runs, three earned, on five hits and three walks. R.J. Olson finished up going 3 ⅔ innings allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and two hit batters while striking out one.
CLARION 10, BROCKWAY 0, 5 INNINGS
BROCKWAY, Pa. – Clarion pushed its winning streak to 11 straight with a 10-0 road win over Brockway in five innings.
The Bobcats led 5-0 before Brockway came to the plate.
Ryan Anthony finished the day with three RBIs while going 1-for-3 with two runs scored for Clarion, while Reed Anthony was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Leo Aiello 2-for-4 with a run scored. Luke Nellis had a double for Clarion, scored a run and drove one in.
Reed Anthony and Cam Craig combined on a two-hit shutout.
Anthony tossed four innings to get the win he struck out five and allowed one hit and one walk. Craig allowed a hit in one inning of work.
Seth Shugarts took the loss going 4 ⅓ innings allowing eight runs, just one earned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out four.
PUNXSUTAWNEY 13, ALTOONA 0, 5 INNINGS
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Lance Pennington smacked a grand slam and drove in six runs to lead Punxsutawney to a 13-0, five-inning win over visiting Altoona.
Pennington, who also had a double, was 3-for-4 on the day with a run scored.
John Matthews also drove in two runs for the Chucks and was 1-for-3 with a walk, while Braxton Giavedoni was 1-for-3 with a walk and four runs scored. Lucas Ambler added two hits and two runs scored, and Brandon Matthews was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Pennington got the win throwing a two-hit shutout with four strikeouts in five innings.
