SOFTBALL

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 10, DUBOIS 6

DUBOIS, Pa. – A six-run first inning helping DuBois Central Catholic grab an early lead on its way to a 10-6 win over DuBois in the City Classic at Heindle Field in DuBois Saturday.

Four different Lady Cardinals each had two RBIs with Mia Meholick going 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored, Carley Semancik going 2-for-4, Jordan Kosko going 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored and Maia Cogley going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Also for DCC, Avery Sickeri was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, Ashley Wruble was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, Alyssa Bittner was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored and Shay Gulvas was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Maddy Ho had a pair of doubles for DuBois while going 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs. Saige Weible was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Sarah Henninger was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Lady Beavers.

Wruble got the win going five innings allowing six runs, just one earned, on seven hits, a walk and a hit batter. She struck out one. Morgan Tyler pitched two scoreless innings not allowing a hit or a walk while striking out three.

Weible took the loss lasting 3 ⅔ innings giving up nine runs, all earned, on 11 hits and a walk while striking out one. Aleigha Geer was charged with one run, it was earned, on five hits while striking out one in 2 ⅓ innings.

BASEBALL

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 1, DUBOIS 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Cole Sansom tossed a five-hit shutout, and DuBois Central Catholic made a first-inning run stand up in a 1-0 win over DuBois in the City Classic at Showers Field in DuBois Saturday.

Sansom struck out three while walking three and hitting a batter.

Garrett Prosper’s two-out double to center in the top of the first scored Noah Bloom from second. Bloom had doubled with one out.

Those doubles accounted for half the hits DCC got off DuBois’ Dayne Bauman, who pitched a complete-game four-hitter. He gave up the one run while walking four and striking out three.

Chandler Ho had the lone extra-base hit for DuBois, a double.

CUBA-RUSHFORD (N.Y.) 5, SMETHPORT 4

BOLIVAR, N.Y. – A late comeback attempt by Smethport fell short in a 5-4 loss to Cuba-Rushford (N.Y.) in the consolation game of the Bolivar-Richburg (N.Y.) Tournament Saturday.

The Hubbers trailed 5-1 going to the seventh but scored three runs in the seventh to make it close.

Grant Ognen led Smethport going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Brandon Higley was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Alex Ognen took the loss going 4 ⅓ innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits, a walk and two hit batters while striking out three.
