SOFTBALL

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 16, BROCKWAY 1, 3 INNINGS

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Shay Gulvas was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and three RBIs while picking up her 100th career hit, as visiting DuBois Central Catholic beat Brockway, 16-1 in three innings

Gulvas, just a junior, picked up her 100th hit in her final at bat against the Lady Rovers when she drove a bases-loaded, bases-clearing triple into center field to put DCC up 12-1 at the time in the second inning.

Chelsea Busatto also had three RBIs in the win for the Lady Cardinals going 2-for-2 with a triple and a run scored.

Savannah Morelli, Ashley Wruble and Rachel Miller each drove in two runs.

Morelli was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Wruble was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored and Miller was 1-for-1 with a double.

Madison Barefield and Morgan Lindemuth had the lone hits for Brockway.

Wruble and Madison Hoyt combined on the two-hitter with Wruble going 1 ⅓ innings allowing an unearned run on one hit while striking out four. Hoyt pitched 1 ⅔ innings allowing a hit while striking out one.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 4, INDIANA 3

INDIANA, Pa. – Grace Aikens hit a home run and went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to lead visiting Punxsutawney over Indiana, 4-3.

Kendal Johnston went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Lady Chucks while Allie Meko was 2-for-3 including a double and run scored. Holly Hartman doubled and Sarah Weaver went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Madison Barker went 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace the Lady Indians. Sara Zimmerman singled and scored a run.

Elliott Ferrent got the win for Punxsutawney with seven strikeouts and three runs allowed on four hits.

Zimmerman had six strikeouts but gave up four runs on eight hits in the loss for Indiana.

ST. MARYS 13, ALTOONA 0, 5 INNINGS

ALTOONA, Pa. – Megan McMackin went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs to help St. Marys shutout Altoona, 13-0 in five innings.

Maura Fledderman drove in three runs while going 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Lady Dutch. Tessa Grotzinger was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs and Brianna Grotzinger doubled with two runs scored and two RBIs. Haley Schatz had a pair of runs scored and Britney Shaw singled with a run scored and an RBI.

Hanna Strawmire had a pair of hits to pace the Lady Lions.

Fledderman threw a two-hit shutout while striking out four to earn the win for St. Marys.

A-C VALLEY 13, FOREST AREA 2, 6 INNINGS

TIONESTA, Pa. – Cami McNany drove in four runs to lead visiting A-C Valley to a 13-2, six-inning win over Forest Area.

McNany was 1-for-1 with a run scored.

Baylee Blauser, Andrea Meals and Sydnie Schmidt each added a pair of RBIs for the Lady Falcons with Blauser going 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and two runs scored, Meals going 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in the third inning, a walk and three runs scored and Schmidt going 1-for-4.

Emily Aites was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Forest Area, while Catelynne Boehme was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Schmidt got the win going six innings allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out two.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 11, SHEFFIELD 0, 6 INNINGS

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Behind three RBIs from Jenna Weisner visiting Elk County Catholic roared to an 11-0, six-inning win at Sheffield.

Weisner was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Also for the Lady Crusaders, Morgan Wolf went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, Rosinia Nero was 4-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI and Katharine Kirst was 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Marissa Grubbs went 2-for-3 with a double for Sheffield, while Tori Childress was 2-for-3.

Michelle Gerber got the win going six scoreless innings allowing five hits while striking out six.

OTTO-ELDRED 17, BRADFORD 3, 5 INNINGS

BRADFORD, Pa. – Reilly Raught went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and three RBIs to help visiting Otto-Eldred defeat Bradford, 17-3 in five innings.

Autumn Smith went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI for the Lady Terrors while Haylee Frederick singled and scored a pair of runs. Emmalee Sheeler was also 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI with Kayley Heller and Harlee VanScooter each adding a pair of runs scored.

Emily Warner had a four-hit effort including a double to pace the Lady Owls offense. Mackenzee Maley went 1-for-1 with a pair of runs scored and Alyssa Hardy singled and scored.

Sheeler for the win for Otto-Eldred with four strikeouts and three runs allowed on nine hits.

PORT ALLEGANY 17, SMETHPORT 13

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Marah Rush drove in four runs to help Port Allegany win a road shootout, 17-13, over Smethport.

Rush was 2-for-4 on the day, while Kaylee Boyd went 3-for-5 with three RBIs for the Lady Gators.

Also for Port Allegany, Jenna Sprankle was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Cailey Barnett went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Willow Lathrop had a pair of doubles for Smethport while going 2-for-4. Bailey Arnold was also 2-for-4 while Rylie Crowley was 2-for-5 for the Lady Hubbers.

Jade Evens got the win giving up four hits and nine walks while striking out three.

CURWENSVILLE 11, KANE 8

KANE, Pa. – Joslynn Freyer and Lauren Tozer combined to go 6-for-10 with three doubles, two runs scored and six RBIs to lead visiting Curwensville to an 11-8 win over Kane.

Freyer was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and three RBIs with Tozer going 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs.

Also for the Lady Tide, Logan Sheeder was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI, Abby Pentz was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, Bailey Bloom was 1-for-2 with three walks, a run scored and an RBI and Mackenzie Wall was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

Ella Marconi led Kane going 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs, Kennedy Himes was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Emma Eli was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Freyer got the win going seven innings allowing eight runs, six earned, on nine hits, two walks and a hit batter while striking out 11.

Rachel Danielson suffered the loss giving up 11 runs, only five earned, on 15 hits and four walks while striking out nine.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 6, NORTHERN POTTER 2

ULYSSES, Pa. – Marissa Bliss had a pair of hits including a double but it wasn’t enough as Northern Potter fell 6-2 against Cowanesque Valley.

Also for the Lady Panthers, Madison Hoopes added an RBI double.

Emma Kosa started and pitched to 15 batters giving up two hits and walking four. Megan Hyde finished out the game facing 14 batters and giving up a hit and a walk while striking out five.

BASEBALL

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 4, BROOKVILLE 3

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Tommy Slay scored the game-winning run on an error in the top of the seventh to help visiting Elk County Catholic escape with a 4-3 victory over Brookville.

Tylor Herzing led the Crusaders offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Alex Fedus went 2-for-2 with a run scored while Hunter Cashmer singled and drove in a run. Will Uberti scored a run and Alec Wehler added a single.

Aaron Park had a pair of hits and a run scored to pace the Raiders offense. Cole LaBenne had a pair of hits and Seth Dunkle went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Brady Schneider pitched the first 5 ⅔ innings for ECC throwing six strikeouts and allowing three runs on six hits. Wehler got the win pitching the last 1 ⅓ innings.

Chase Palmer, who relieved a wild Jace Miner in the first inning, took the loss.

Palmer pitched seven innings allowing two unearned runs on two hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out two.

Miner couldn’t get out of the first facing four batters and not recording an out. He was charged with two runs, both earned, on a hit and three walks.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 12, BROCKWAY 1, 5 INNINGS

DUBOIS, Pa. – Noah Bloom went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs to lift Dubois Central Catholic over visiting Brockway, 12-1 in five innings.

Justin Miknis was also 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI for the Cardinals, while Garrett Prosper went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Domenic Toretti drove in three runs and Tyler McIntosh had a pair of hits including a double. Anthony Kness singled and drove in two runs, and Brandon Walker went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Zane Puhala doubled and scored the lone run for the Rovers. Tyler Serafini, Matthew Clark and Garrett McClintick each had singles.

Peter Downer had a strikeout and gave up a run on four hits to earn the victory for DCC.

CENTRAL-MARTINSBURG 10, CLEARFIELD 5, 8 INNINGS

HYDE, Pa. – Central-Martinsburg used a five-run eighth inning to defeat Clearfield, 10-5 in eight innings.

The Dragons were led by Noah Muthler who went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Dylan Focht went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Paxton Kling had a pair of hits with two runs scored and an RBI. Hunter Klotz and Devon Boyles each drove in two runs.

Eli Glass and Cade Walker each hit doubles to pace the Bison with Walker adding two RBIs. Harrison Peacock went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Focht got the win for Central-Martinsburg giving up three hits and five runs while striking out three.

Glass started the game on the mound for Clearfield striking out three batters and giving up four runs on six hits in five innings. Walker finished the last three innings with five strikeouts.

PORTVILLE-CENTRAL (N.Y.) 6, PORT ALLEGANY 4

PORTVILLE, N.Y. – Cameron Lott had a pair of hits including a double and two RBIs to help Portville-Central (N.Y.) defeat visiting Port Allegany, 6-4.

Michael Stillman doubled with a run scored and two RBIs for the Panthers while Maxwell Yehl went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Nathan Petryszak had a pair of runs scored while Ryan Stillman and Joseph Long each went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Howie Stuckey paced the Gators offense going 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Josh Rees doubled and drove in a run while Montgomery Tanner went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Long struck out five batters and gave up three runs on six hits to get the win for Portville-Central.

Rees took the loss for Port Allegany giving up a hit and four runs while striking out one and walking five.

GALETON 13, OSWAYO VALLEY 4

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Hunter Crowell drove in four runs while going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored to lead visiting Galeton over Oswayo Valley, 13-4.

Tre Slawson went 2-for-5 including a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Tigers while Foster Kosa went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Brandon Reuf and Seth Succowich each doubled with Jake Cochran and Wyatt Kosa each getting a pair of hits.

Noah Wichert paced the Green Wave going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Colton Gietler doubled and had two runs scored while Pablo Vidal Garcia went 1-for-1 with a run scored.

Slawson struck out 10 batters while allowing four runs on five hits to get the win for Galeton.

Gunner Bean took the loss for Oswayo Valley with four strikeouts.
